I do appreciate the fact that Bioware went out on a limb and tried to make a unique ending that might have been thougt provoking. If you think about the ending is technically the universe being reset with all of our exploits being mere folk tales.

But while I appreciate Bioware's ambition to do something unique, there should have been a perfect ending that would have ended with Mass Effect actually Existing/ going forward in time.

I'd rather have a simple, well executed ending than the esoteric left-field philosophy that got sprung on us at the last moment.

As would I. I meant to imply that the current ending should be the bad ending.

It was an ending with good intentions but some of the stuff simply did not belong. Don't pull up a kid out of nowhere, declare him the catalyst, and then expect us to believe that Shepard will do whatever the catalyst offers him/her. Kind of a lazy wrap-up with little closure at the end to boot. If they could have gone into more detail and established the catalyst idea a bit better, I would like the ending a little more.

edit: It's all space magic. lazy. unresolved.

I'm afraid I can't appreciate this for two reasons.

First, the ending really isn't that unique; it feels similar enough to the ending of Deus Ex: Human Revolution to undermine its supposed depth.

Second, even if I could accept the choices I'm presented with as the only options after everything I went through (which I can't), there is not a single good reason (from the perspective of a player) to be left with absolutely no closure as to the state of the galaxy post-Crucible.  What happens to the galactic civilizations as a result of my choice?  What do people think of what happened?  What happens to all the people that Bioware has done such a wonderful job of ensuring I care about over five years of gaming?  Nor is there a viable excuse for the gaping plotholes in the wholly unsatisfying final cutscene. How did my LI, who was with me on earth when Harbinger gave me full-body laser surgery, escape to the Normandy? Why was the Normandy apparently not part of the battle at the end of the day?

It's hard to appreciate anything about the content of the ending(s) when the execution is so bad.

I like the fact that even though I was choosing the 'Renegade' light it felt like a Paragon choice. Like I was doing the right thing. Choosing that just kind of reverted them there was lots of species on Earth, it had hope. I don't like the fact that they used the cliche Robot/Organic war, and none of your choices had a purpose in the end. It was just A, B, or C.
