Yes. They went somewhere weird that I hated in the literally, last 10 minutes of the best game I have ever played. I agree with all your ideas and analysis, but to put it frank, I am annoyed no one is getting something. I have spend the last couple days listening to everyone b**** and complain about the endings. I have had enough. You should be happy. You have every right to be sad at the lost, and the things that have happend. But you are not looking ahead. I am not talking about everyone being able to rebuild, and get back to their planets after many hard years. Look farther. 50,000 years into the future. When the supposed never ending cycle of harvest doesnt happen. A cycle Billions, if not Trillions of years in the making. Broken. What happens after the reapers hit? They leave life to develope so they can come back in 50,000 years. The only difference is that they wont come back this time.

A new race will come around. Just like every 50,000 years before it. But they will be free. They have a future. Even if Humanity, Turians, Asari, Salarian, Krogan, Drell, Hanar, Volus, Vorcha, Batarian, and others gave their lives. They gave the next generation of a new race, or races, something that has been missing for Trillions of years.

A future.

Yes. Stop being selfish. Its not about us, or the other races! Its about the future kd the galaxy!

Its about the journey. NOT the destination. And what a journey it was.

We don't care about the races that will rule the galaxy in a gagillion years. We didn't spent three games becoming emotionaly attached to them.

If I want a bad end where even winning is but a phyric victory, I read a Warhammer40k book.

I think the fact that such an unbelievable stretch is required to make the ending satisfying should be telling.

They'll have a future like the Drell's past. Wasting away on their planet, slowly dying alone in the vast emptiness of space, because there will be no mass relays. No citadel. No galactic civilization.

The ending is a kick in the balls. No matter how you want to polish it up.

I don't think anyone is FORCING you to read the "Ending is Human Fecal Matter" posts on the boards. Unless you are caught up in the weirdest hostage situation I have heard of, your solution is simple...

DON'T READ THE ENDING SUCKS THREADS!! STAY AWAY!!

It's a stretch to think that the cycle is broken?

All right, then.

The end completely ignores pretty much every choice you've made throughout the series. Very odd for a series that stresses the existential impact of ones choices.

No and really, the endings were nothing like what was promised. It was stated that the Reapers could win - but they can't, even if you lose, you take them with you - or we could get a golden ending, but none of them change really. You got three flavors of crap, you destroyed galactic civilization, not the Reapers, -you-, and potentially all synthetic life and most mass effect technology which just further screws the galaxy YOU were trying to save. I can respect you being moderately civil about rationalizing this, but it's still a really weak defense.

Stop preventing yourselves from looking at the brighter side of things. Not everything can be the way you want it. That's the way the world is.

If after an epic journey  your destination leads you directly down the drain, you will not care about epic journey. All you will think is "I am down the drain, why god, or why?!"

That's not "looking at the bright side." That's sitting in the dark, trying not to be upset about it.

@OP:
The thing is, while you are technically correct, the game fails to create an emotional connection to that even bigger picture. The destruction of the mass relays *feels* like the end of the world, even if it's not technically correct, because the world as we feel it, that's the characters and places, galactic civilization, the whole setting we've got emotionally invested in. Destroying that, fragmenting galactic civilization, while failing to make us emotionally connect to the achievement, makes it feel like a bad ending.

To say nothing about how it feels as if a philosophy I passionately don't believe in is forcibly inserted into a character I am supposed to identify with. I have my suspicion that we're supposed to feel that resetting civilization is actually a good thing. Again, it may not have been the intention, but that's how it feels.

I think Bioware sacrificed the "satisfying" endings they promised us to the saviour theme they wanted to push through.

Edit:
And this "It's about the journey" - the endings makes me feel like I should taken the first step. I don't need to torture myself consuming stories with those end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it endings I despise.

No the endings are dumb and feel out of place, they literately make as much sense as if a clown came and talked to you instead of a star child and told you to pick what flavor the universe would turn into.

Why should I be happy about the fact that Shepard accomplishes the Reaper's goals by reducing galactic civilization to technological levels that would have gotten them ignored? Everything you fought for in the trilogy is a lie.

How are you help- Oh I see what's going on here.

Funny, your solution to helping the community is to tell us to shut up about it, simultaneously telling us to cheer up but to also accept that we just destroyed galactic civilization. Either you're doing this for ****s and giggles or you've got one hell of an ego.
