I'm not really into comics, and I don't really have any interest in reading any of the Mass Effect novels. It's just not my thing. Because of this, I have absolutely no insight into how Kai Leng is at all significant to this game, other than to ruin Shepard's day every time he appears. The most I get out of Anderson is an e-mail about his time in the Alliance and the warning that he's a bad egg, plus the Illusive Man's video logs. That's it.

Seriously, other than the ending, Kai Leng's involvement is probably the weakest thing in this game, imo. I was enjoying a video game exploring the complexity of turian/krogan political bargaining, and then I go to the Citadel, Kai Leng suddenly appeared, killed Thane, and ran off. I ended up forgetting he existed. Then, I went back to enjoying the game as Quarians and the Geth finally found a way to live together as equals. But then I arrived in Thessia, and look, Kai Leng magically appeared again, destroyed some things, stole my data, and ran off again. The next time I saw him was the battle where Shepard defeated him. And that's it. That's all I get about the character.

Why was he in this game at all? He had no impact on the story whatsoever other than being suddenly thrown in as a diabolus ex machina plot device. Am I the only person that feels this way? I had absolutely no enjoyment in killing Kai Leng., because I seriously gave zero s**ts about him.

While I might agree to that I don't get why he was there either (havnt really thought much about it frankly)

The moment he killed Thane though was when I started caring. About his death. I don't give a damn about the character after that.

Maybe that's what Bioware was after, dunno. I'm glad I got to gut him though.
