 WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR ME2 (I guess?)


So, I'm about 5 hours into ME3, playing with a male Shephard. I haven't imported any saves from ME1 or 2 because they all got lost the last time my comp died.

So I figured I'd get my M!Shepard to romance Kaiden, because well, why not. No issue there, but I only just got around to looking at that memorial plaque thing on one of the decks in the Normandy, and it mentions that Thane Krios has died. Which is pretty annoying, because he survived the suicide mission in that save I didn't get to import, and is one of my favourite characters. So I decided I'd play through ME2 again to I could have a save to import.

Problem: Since I don't have any saves from ME1 which reflect a choice to save either Kaiden or Ashlee (I never actually played ME1,) ME2 just seems to assume because my character is male I wanted Ashlee along for the ride and not Kaiden. 

So basically I want two things: Thane and Kaiden to be alive. Am I going to just have to suck it up and play through both ME 1 and ME2 to get this or is there a way around?

Playing through ME 2 unlocks the origin comic which will allow you to make decisions for the first game like choosing Kaidan or Ashley, killing the rachni queen or letting her live, killing wrex etc.

Really? YAY. You have no idea how happy that makes me. How is this origin comic accessed?
