How hard was your headcanon crushed?

And then I come to find that the same fans despise the endings just as much as I do.
So how hard did the endings crush your headcanon?
For my hetero couple of Shep and Jack I had always pictured them on some nice little garden world, raising a baby girl Jack's hair had grown back out to a long and waving mane, completely covering the tattoos on her skull. They had been happy, the lonely girl from the lab and the retired war veteran that had taught her how to trust people again, and their daughter was the product of that.
AS FOR MY S/S ROMANCE?
Kaidan and Shep were supposed to return to Earth and help rebuild. When everything was said and done they were supposed to be married in the orchard owned by Kaidan's family and honeymoon on Kahje, enjoying the warm wet climate for a time before adopting a child.
Hopes. Dashed.

Koi, were you also as upset as a lot us other Jack fans for the lack of treatment Jack got? One good scene, then you finish it off with everyone getting the same scene in the citadel and never see her again?
I like to imagine her pretty much as she is in ME3, with Shep and her finding peace in each other and helping to get Humanity back on it's feet with Jack training Biotics and Shepard leading the relief effort as a General/Admiral now that he can put his gun to rest.
Later down the line I see little rocker children.

That would actually be awesome. Badly injured Shepard awakes while being rescued and the DLC could consist in you trying to give the final blow to the Reapers.

Though, it's almost acceptable and not that crushing for forever alone runs (i.e. Ashley is alive).

Completely.
Jack was one of my favorite character from Mass Effect 2 and they give her a single scene. I'm actually not too keen on any of the continuation romancees with people outside of your party, I don't know I just fell like if they truly loved you they would do more than just become war assets. I was at least hoping that Jack would join the party temporarily.

I don't know... I like this game, but I don't love it.

It's ridiculous. I think Bioware knew they added too many romantic characters and didn't have the time/money to cater to them all as they wanted to. So we get screwed violently.

I love the game, but the romances outside of the Normandy and the main party? Not so much. Makes me want to dump Jack entirely and hit up Alenko or Liara.

You hurt me bad, Bioware. I'm not certain I'll keep throwing my money at you if you keep pulling stuff like this.

I didn't really see her survive.
But still, now when you experience the ending, this everything... it's so overhelming, intense. Depressing.

If there's one thing that bothers me, it's that my Shepard would have reacted a lot more strongly to Mordin and Thane going down than anything about Ash. Ashley was a soldier, getting paid for it. She went out well and all, but it's an old wound. Thane and Mordin went out saving everyone and they were closer friends than I ever got the impression she was with Ash. I get why they did it and all... But still. That crushed my headcanon a little.
GARRUS AND THANE AND VANGUARD SHEP WERE A TEAM, DAMNIT. My strike team for scary missions! And Garrus has ONE line about his death that may actually mean Ashley!

Yeah, it's called realism. You should appreciate it when you get it in games, because it's damn rare.Templar Fox wrote...
Big Tali fan here - you must imagine my disappointment. They make a big deal out of building her a home on Rannoch, and you'll never get to see that. Neither will she.

At least for my original Shep. She was my original Shep's LI. The rest I really don't care about now that it'll lead to nowhere.
I haven't even beaten the game yet but I know how it ends, and I'm not sure I even want to finish it now.

Though I will say that my headcanon about the Dark Energy being behind the Reaper's motivations was horrendously crushed, even though that was apparently their reasoning in the original script. Now I'm left wondering why the even included that plot point in the previous games if they weren't going to use it.

Why should we appreciate it when it's handled so poorly? Endings like this only work when they're intigrated well into the story itself. Hell, take away the Guardian, do more back writing and hint at them better, and then add a bit more choice into the variables, and they WOULD have worked. The problem is that they were ham-fisted into the story at the last minute with all the care of a rampaging bull. Poorly handled realism in a fictional story often works to it's detriment.Arcian wrote...

Civilization fragmented.....ME universe destroyed. All the untold stories in my head...ripped to shreds.
I can start over, but it's not the same. I basically have to remake the world.

I'm glad I am not the only one the feels that way. I have an idea floating around in my head and it may be a while before I get around to writing it. I may just AU everything and try to make an ending that works for Shepard and Liara while trying to keep within what happened in the game. Ending not withstanding.Ieldra2 wrote...

Everything I have done to this point has been reduced to AU.

After a little thought, I've concluded that the developers thought they were being clever and that the cutscene after the credits is the 'out' for all our complaints - the grandfather says that "the details got lost" so that allows each player to write their own ending, potentially ignoring everything that happened that they object to - that was just part of the story that got 'garbled' over time...Militarized wrote...

It doesn't explain everything, but it is an 'out'. They're probably scratching their heads wondering why everyone 'missed' it and are so upset!

I'm sure they used the metrics ME2 sent back to them to determine which romances were most popular and focused on them.JayTheWolf wrote...

It didn't crush my headcanon, but crused some hopes I had for the future of Shepard/ME universe.
Now, I will employ headcanon to make sense of it.
