Yes it seriously needs this, I was so shocked to see it wasn't ingame already..This along with the really low res textures on the new MP DLC really show what Bioware is focusing on....

They dont add this because console players dont need to type.
And this is a super extra mega console oriented game. I mean, just look at the options you have in PC. None.

not sure if i really need text input, cba to even try type while fighting, just "brb" button would be enough to have a smoke before pressing "ready" .. just need 30sec "not ready" status and people already leaves or votes for kick 
.. but well.. sheetchat between games.. "okayish" propably cant say more than "hai sup" and game starts..

Do need, especially on lobby. People rarely speak on PC, would make coordinating easier and telling people you're going for a bio etc. so they don't get tired of waiting and kick you / leave.

I can kind of understand not having text chat for fear of people using it inappropriately... but first of all, people can say inappropriate things over voice chat anyway, and second, isn't this game rated mature anyway?

You wouldn't be able to use it because you're too busy fighting...
...so the guy pinned down in cover by a Phantom on the other side of the map, unable to talk due to lack of mic (or whatever), doesn't get the ability to yell for help.
Yep, that makes sense.
