I asked one of our multiplayer designers about the lack of text chat. He's aware of the problem. I can't promise any fix because I can't speak for him and what he's able to do, but I just wanted to let you all know we're aware of the concern.

Thank you, notifying them is the best we could ask for. Hopefully it can be implemented!

Nice try. It has been almost 2 months. It's quite obvious it won't happen Image IPB

I have a mic, but I find it much easier to make myself understood via text than speech. It's also less troublesome to play without a mic connected, and lastly, I don't fancy the idea of speaking to random people (who may or may not be able to answer :P).

Give us text chat. I'm tired of just standing there, completely mute, unable to warn my comrades of the incoming Phantoms, Guardians or Geth Hunters.

Great, so instead of (or in addition to) someone screaming in my ear that another squadmate isn't playing the way he wants them to play, we have to see it in text as well? OUTSTANDING. Yeah...hey, Skeezix, instead of texting about how "someone stole your kill!!!1111!!111!!", how about rezzing one of your fallen comrades or protecting someone during an objective run?

Ugh...fine, but if this must be done, I better be able to toggle it on or off.

Still needed as well as a ping/latency indicator in lobbies. It blows my mind that these aren't included, especially in a game with no dedicated servers... How is anyone supposed to know where the host is located without being able to A) see your latency/ping or B) ask the host using text chat (not everyone has mics or uses them) to see where he/she is located so we can have an idea of whether or not there's a chance for a laggy game.

I agree that this is badly needed, but it would be nice if we could toggle it off during a match if need be. I'm a girl, and I've had some problems in the past with guys getting really weird when they find that out over the mic. Luckily I'm able to turn off all mic sounds in the in-game menu, so I hope they do the same with text chat.

a lot of PC specific stuff is difficult for developers to work with because it's not their specialty or inherent to what they're doing like it is on xbox and ps3.  it takes quite a bit more time and resources to add the stuff that PC gamers have come to expect.  At least, that's the excuse i have read in interviews with devs from other games that were also missing these things.

Well then text chatting is perfect for you.  Just use the text instead of the mic and no one would realize you're a girl unless you wanted them to.

For some odd reason, my mic never works in game. I often melee or shoot a teammate to send a hint. I'm quite confident that gesture was interpreted wrongfully 9 out of 10. :(

I use my laptop for voice comms, so I either remain silent or end up wearing 2 headsets...we need this

I have the voice chat turned off, so I cannot hear anything other then the game's volume - thank god. It's so annoying to have my speakers speaking in some ****gishly annoying voices (yes, the voice of the general players annoys me. I wanted to hear the game's effect, not some idiots voice)
