During the Last Operation Weekend. Normally we get terrible players on Gold. Doesn't matter if the PC player has mic, since not everyone SPEAKS ENGLISH
So how do you communicate when a player (myself) is sync-killed? I'm watching inexperience players who about to get killed when
1. There's a phantom coming up the stairs and the other players aren't aware.....
2. There's two banshees, why not use a Rocket and get it over with. I can text chat and tell them this common sense answer.
3. There's two atlas's and a Nemesis. Please use Rocket (text chat)
4. simply am able to tell them tips
5. able to communicate cross-culture barriers
etc....
There's many reasons why we need Text Chat. It's not a MIc Issue.........

I think there's a few reasons they left it out.
1- Spam. If they had it, someone, somewhere, sometime, is going to spam the chat to the point where you either can't see the game, or you can't see what people are saying because it keeps getting over written.
2- Matches can get too hectic. In a firefight, I don't have time to stop and read a huge chunk of text instructions from someone that needs help and doesn't know where they are.
3- Language. I don't know how to read German or Korean or Spanish or Japanese or any number of other languages out there.
4- Chat speak. People's grammar and spelling are bad enough on forums, where I actually have time to decipher it. I'd rather play the game than spend an hour trying to figure out if you're pinned down or just needlessly complimenting my recent headshot.
On paper, text chat sounds good, but in practice it's really not all that it's cracked up to be. Going out and spending $10 on a headset is a much better idea.
I used to play Age of Empires III a lot and text chat was THE way to do anything in that game, so I have some experience on the following points:
1 is a very rare thing.
2 I can defniitely understand but it should exist as an option if someone can manage it. Just being able to outline a general gameplan (Like sentinel saying to vanguard "I warp everything, you charge it and nova it!" and Vanguard agreeing) would help tons.
3 is not the case, generally. Most gamers can speak marginal English, especially if they're Western European or Asian.
4 is not a huge issue for most people.
In addition it might also help if i can tell people status of my consumables. E.g. have only a single rocket left etc
.
If you are taken down your ally can tell you to self revive if they cant reach you or dont waste medigel since they have got it handled.

I can't think of a single multiplayer game on pc that does not have text chat. Simple online 101 bioware.
And to people who think reading text gets people killed, go play a micro intensive competitive game like Starcraft or counter strike or unreal tournament before you even think about speaking

I don't mic for a variety of reasons, but I've had squaddies running around to pick up nades. I wanted to tell them "I'ma Demolisher, fill em up!", but y'know no mic.
