I've got one, but I have no desire to listen to everyone who's decided to set it to Voice Activated. UE3 supports text-chat, but it's been masked simply because ME3 is a console oriented game. Now, that in itself isn't an issue since Mass Effect has always been a console oriented series, but there are strengths on the PC that the consoles don't have that should be taken advantage of.

Reason text chat is traditionally not offered in games is simply because either Xbox Live handles it, or PSN handles it on the top end. That's no excuse to ignore it internally for the PC

The demo had "T"-button for text chat but it wasn't working, thought it was going to be fixed in the full game. I never actually thought that fixing something would mean removing it. >:(

Yep, that makes its exclusion even worse... Bioware intended at some point to have it, and then decided to get rid of it...

X-ray machines and Catscans let doctors see inside a patients body and diagnose better.  But a doctor develped his skill in educated guessing due to the symtoms...so DOWN WITH TECHNOLOGY AND X-RAY MACHINCES!!

Listening to heavy breathers and obnoxious freaks is not 'getting with the times,' is called annoying, and as a result I don't use a mic with people I don't know.  I also don't need someone blaring "LZLZLZLZLZ!" at the end of every match even when everyone is already in LZ!  Nor do I need to hear "pant pant cough pant" because some dude with bronchittus thought it was a good idea to leave his mic on voice activate!

Also, just look at the community, on the PC there are virtually no teams communicating on any level because there is no Text-Chat.

Isn't a technology issue. First and foremost, some people just don't have a microphone, and it stifles co-operation if there isn't a way for those people to communicate. Reasons why a microphone isn't available is irrelevant. Combine that with the fact that a majority of players can't use one responsibly and VOIP with public players tends to be VERY disliked. (This is especially true if you used to play on Xbox Live where racist comments and homophobic slurs are commonplace.)

The system is capable of managing a text chat, there was evidence to suggest it would be there in the demo. There should be a way to communicate without a mic on the PC. Your analogy is bad.

...agreed.  Text chatting instanteously with three other total strangers collaborating electronically over an intercontinental cloud-based computer network is so...so...pen and quill 17th century.

However...i have no idea how i'd manage to type in game as fingers are generally fully occupied keeping self alive and mooks otherwise - for lobby, +1 - no objections to in-game, just don't expect a post card back.

Yip.. and "T" still can;t be unbound, which annoys me as it is one of my usual power keys... but I can live around that... no text chat is just silly.

And speaking personally, it is often not wise to advertise I am a girl by speaking 'cos the conversation can go rapidly downhill, so don't tell me or anyone else to play how you play just because you have no empathy for anyone else's situation. How would it harm you with the introduction of text chat? How would you lose? If you want to use voice chat, do so, and let others use text with no pointless arguments against, no?

You want to know how it effects me?  B/c it's a pain in the ass to have to type out "REAPER BEHIND YOU...NO YOU....THE DUDE IN BLUE....YES YOU!!!........nevermind."  B/c like the other guy said some of you are seem to be too pompous that you think every match is going to have someone breathing into their mics or blarring music or whatever.

FACT:  I have played the multiplayer non stop since midnight release....I have had a nice conversation with one of the 4  members of the team twice....once somoenes mic was messing up...the rest of the time NO ONE SAYS ANYTHING.

You're exaggerating the problems with mics plain and simple.

If you're a girl.....heres my view.  Most of the time the guys "break your balls"...just to be silly.  Tastefully of course.  If that person is being really rude and sexual then you should report him.

But as it is now....90% of the ppl with mics don't even make a sound much less say anything.

Also it'd be great if you could add someone on Origin in-game, because sometimes you get playing with some right characters, but forget their name and never see them again :(

Steam has a great feature where even after a game you can view a list of people you've recently played with, and contact them that way

It also has a nice feature where you can chat with multiple people at once...

Stupid Origin.

And regarding microphones, the game doesn't even give enough options to set it up correctly.  No input volume, input boost, auto-detect sensitivity, or test mode.  These are all standard things that you'd find in TF2, L4D, Ventrilo, Mumble, etc.

I would love to have text chat, if only to say, "Hey guys don't freak out if I'm not rushing to the extraction point with 1:30 seconds left, instead smashing all enemies ever so we have an easier time surviving overall." to everyone. I feel as if I'm giving all my teammates heart attacks when I don't instantly rush to the extraction point.

It's a common problem, especially since irresponsible people move to VOX rather than PTT. (You can blame this on PSN or the 360 for fostering this point of view. My time on Xbox Live was nothing but dismal when dealing with the general public.) There is nothing saying YOU can't use your mic. I refuse to speak to people I don't wish to. You don't have to use text-based chatting you can simply say "Reaper behind you" (Even then, it's a bit hard to figure out who's talking since there's no ****ing UI element to indicate that...) and other players can respond as well. This isn't the Xbox 360. Microphones aren't handed out like candy, and people may not be in an environment where they can use it.

Text doesn't damage you in the slightest and it's a standard. To argue against it is basically throwing a fit for throwing a fit's sake.
