Also... people, you can get headphones with mics for like ten bucks, it's really easy. And most laptops come with built in mics.

learn to type quickly then. twitch trigger fps games like counterstrike have in-game text chat. EVERY OTHER MULTIPLAYER PC GAME HAS TEXT CHAT.

and what about people with computers in shared living spaces? would you rather you heard everything that went on in the background?

What about mutes? What about the deaf? What about those who play late at night and dont want to wake housemates?

Try not to call people things before questioning yourself.

First, a well implement text chat doesn't have any impact in your gameplay. Limitations are present in most games with text chat, some of them even have options to turn it of completely. Thats rarely an issue. 

Second, you don't have to use it.

And third and most important thing. There are more than a handful of situations in which a person cannot speak. The most trivial technical issue among PC is when a person in lobby simply cant hear or speak to another. A strong argument can be made about speech disorders.

If you can't play platinum and type at the same time. Then maybe you didn't belong on platinum in the first place.

I CAN type quickly, it's the other people that can't. 

And the games that have text chat aren't relying on the entire team staying alive. I don't want to lose a match because half my team stopped to talk and got instakilled by phantoms. 

And also, you can set it up so  the mic only goes on when you turn it on, you know. Mine is set up so I press tab and speak, then it stops when I stop holding tab. Doesn't effect gameplay, but people don't have to hear everything going on in the background.

It does when the team goes down for chatting at a bad time. Even if I don't use it, other people will. 

As I said, i'm fine with it in the lobby, it's in-match that's the problem.  

And do you really think that with the amount of planning that bioware does, that they'll actaully add an option to disable it in lobbies? They don't even have a map search filtering system yet.
