So... the Crucible was built by all the races that came before the current cycle, yet it is what Star Child had planned all along. Why did the Reapers wipe out the previous races if they were working towards the Reaper and Star Child's goal? Couldnt it have been completed faster if the Reapers didnt slaughter everyone and let them do the Synthesis thing? Sensemake  is none.

I didn't get that impression at all (just finished, myself).

I got the impression the crucible wasn't something it had anticipated. Note that it, itself, didn't make the choices.

Pretty sure he did. He explained everything so well, how it would end and what would happen with each choice. Sure, the Citadel has enough processing power to think that up on the spot, but Bioware doesnt like to think of technicalities. It wouldnt fit with their logic to use small details like that to significantly change the story, since there are so many plot holes that ignore such details.
Plus the Reapers could have destroyed it when they wanted, you could SEE them outside. Their spase lazer beams could also reach the Crucible, so no problem there.

Eh. I'm not going to debate the logic of "why didn't the reapers just shoot it?" as that is more properly a "Tropes are not bad" discussion. (chuckle)

It doesn't fit the dialogue of the Catalyst that its design plans would include "just blow my whole solution the hell up! That's my plan!" (Moreso if you're on a low overall War Assets run, as it's possible for this to be the -only- option if you are).

The Catalyst was locked into the idea that the Reapers were the only solution to what it perceived as The Problem.  When the Crucible docked and Shep arrived it meant two things, the first that its solution wasn't robust and secondly that there were three replacement options (RED/GREEN/BLUE) - the Catalyst leaves which option to take up to Shep.  Because the Catalyst actually seems to want to solve the problem of organic/synthetic why would it destroy the Crucible?  The Catalyst seemed very set in its ways, but also seemed trapped in its thinking.  Shep + Crucible = new options.  Ultimately this choice is given over to Shep - do nothing while a 4th option was a death sentence to all advanced races in this cycle.

My 2 cents.
