…the “now defunct” Mass Accelerator weapon that gave a bullet burn to a planet that makes the Grand Canyon look like a water drain, and left a dead Reaper drifting in a brown dwarf at least 2 star systems away?

Current endings are a dead horse. Not debating that here.

Why not have an option to turn the Crucible into one of those and go hunting reapers? Or better yet, give a choice, build the Crucible (something that at the time, nobody knows what it will do) or build the Accelerator. ( something that there is no doubt what it will do)

Even on a smaller scale, you give me (Shepherd) that, and I’ll give you dead Reapers.

They removed the potential of it to include the three endings they wanted to impose on us, that's about it. Just as much as the Citadel's "child" entity thing never bothered to open the Citadel to the Reapers fleet in ME1 in the first place... but wait, of course, in ME1's "official" lore (from the original writer) that entity never existed, since the Reapers actually needed to send a signal to the Keepers from dark space so that the Keepers from inside the Citadel could open it to allow the Reapers fleet to start their invasion from that point, which they did during the Protheans' cycle.

Let's just not delve too deep in the possibilities from ME1 or ME2 since ME3 is imposing endings, it'd futile at this point and we'd just discover plot holes after plot holes.
