I am in the Great Hall of the Circle of Mages on an Xbox 360. This is the part where you fight the Bewitched Templars and a Blood Mage. There is also the room with the Desire Demon, her partner Templar, and a lot of Undead. Frankly, I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but I keep dying. A lot of the encounters are way too much for my group. Another example is the Revenant (!) on an earlier level. I could not come close to beating it.

PARTY: Shale (level 8), Wynn (level 9), and Allistair (level 8).
MAIN CHARACTER: Level 8 Melee Rogue

I can get by, of course, by using dialog options or not summoning the Revenant, but I really enjoying clearing everything. And at this level, I do not have the tools :)

I could use some advice! Thank you very much.

sometimes the enemy is extremely difficult because the programmers wanted you to be afraid and talk your way out of the situation. If you think you're soo tough that you want to face them, they will murder you.

I also did exactly what you intend on doing vs that demon and it was freaking hard hard hard on nightmare.

1. Run your party out of the room into a choke point. (i went down the hall into crumbled archways)
(if you have enough space get everyone to equip ranged weapons and shoot 1 target at a time from range.)
2. Let 1 through and attack with 4 party members (even healer)
3. Block the passage with your melee and focus 1 at a time.
4. Place your tank on the Desire Demon, Get her to face Away from your party, drag her away.
5. Eat healing potions like candy on haloween, and it's still extremely hard.
6. Use paralyze on the desire demon if you have it.
sorry can't list all my party talents but you need to work with what you have, and it is possible with potions! and Pause!

also, backstab rogue on nightmare is very vulnerable you may want to fight at the front next to the tank just so you dont get flanked.

Thank you for the help. I will stock up on potions and try your suggestions.

What amazes me is that people say they can solo the entire game on Nightmare with a single stealthy Rogue. I do not see how that is possible unless you do some exploiting/glitching?? How would you take out a Revenant as a level 8 solo Rogue when it chews up a party pretty quickly. Or take out the Desire Demon and her entourage... *shiver* at level 8.

yea lol... stun is on long cooldown, and resists a lot. My only guess is they attack briefly using all stamina, stealth in combat, wait a long time, attack again wit hfull stamina...

but imagine how long a fight would be. imo /wrists

1 more thing for getting through nightmare, you can buy unlimited flasks from some shops, and unlimited elfroot from dalish forest. I used about 200 lesser healing potions. regular healing potions i probably used about 100 and never needed larger healing pots. i used about 20 lyrium pots.

Also, circle of magi is one of the hardest places to start at lvl 7 since you can't leave but you're gonna love the fade.

You don't take out a revenant as a level 8 solo rogue, you get a few levels first. I solo'd revenants at 14, needed a little extra dex and equipment.

Turn the difficulty down to normal for a while to build levels so you can get a feel for the game, how to use tactics, use skills, etc.

Once you get a feel for the game nightmare with a full team is a breeze.

Finally stop fighting where the devs want you to fight.

Fight where you have the advantage, that means using the "hold" command, running by a doorway to draw a few enemies out, then fighting them in the hall, and other things like that.

Also I've beaten the game as a solo rogue on nightmare, it's not as hard as you think, especially if you have a ranger pet.

Your mindset of "use all the moves right away depleting stamina" shows why you're having trouble on nightmare, that's not the most effective or efficient way to play.

Ranger pet isn't even necessary. All you need to solo nightmare is a ranged weapon to pull enemies and combat stealth. Honestly, if you're really good at using combat stealth you can separate packs of enemies without a ranged weapon. I'm past the landsmeet with a pure dw melee strength rogue soloing nightmare. Rogue with 40 armor ftw. I know that's not the best build but I was just having fun with it.

For the OP, add Morrigan to your party and drop either Shale or Alistair, you don't need 2 tanks. Make sure she has crowd control spells. Things that stun/paralyze whole groups of enemies and cone of cold and you should be able to walk through any encounter. Crowd control is the name of the game in nightmare...until you get to know the game mechanics well enough to exploit enemy AI and solo the whole thing.

You don't take on the Revenant at level 8, you come back later. :P Desire demon, on the other hand, is entirely doable, with no exploits. I laid down spring traps to knock down her entourage so I could pull her away. You can fight her one on one if you use all your tricks, but yeah, I still remember those two desire demons, hardest fights in the tower for my solo Rogue.
