I'm a paragon Shepard. What will happen if I choose intimidate option?

Okay, this is how I understand how it works (NOTE: this is not fact, as I can not look "under the hood" of the game, so this is pure speculation based on my experiences) :

Basically, when you gain Paragon points and Renegade points, your Reputation gets filled up.

How far your Rep is filled determines which Paragon/Renegade dialogue options are "unlocked" for you.

In ME2, Paragon points unlocked Paragon dialogue and Renegade points unlocked Renegade dialogue.

In ME3, both Paragon AND Renegade dialogue gets unlocked bu Reputation.

This system is probably BioWare reaction to the massive complaints about ME2, which railroaded you towards 1 alignment, characters with mixed alignment ("Paragades" and "Renegons" got punished in ME2).

In ME2, you had moments where you needed insanely high persuasion or intimidation skills. If you were a Paragon character, you only had the persuasion dialogue (Paragon) unlocked. if you were a Renegade character, you only had the intimidation dialogue (Renegade) unlocked. If you played a mixed character (Paragade/Renegon) you had neither unlocked and thus you were screwed.

With the new Reputation system in ME3, you're no longer railroaded towards one alignment. You can play a mixed character without getting punished by the system, because this time BOTH persuasion AND intimidation dialogue options get unlocked based on how high your Rep bar is filled (whether it's mostly Paragon or Renegade doesn't matter).
