Ok, I think everyone is aware of mass frustration wave, caused by totally unsatisfying ending.
The fact, that endings doesn't fit whole Mass Effect universe at all is not a breaking news as well.
There was no place for "space magic" in previous games, and originally there was no place for it in ME3 too.
But for some unknown reasons ingenous Biowere scenary writer decided to put it into game, and, as most of us can feel, there is a point in the game where everything goes bad/illogical/messed up. Probably most of us will agree, that it appears somwhere in last 15 minutes of game, as personally I feel - the moment when Shepard gets shot by reaper and than recowers and limps into beam. After this moment comes replaced part of plot.
You may like it or not, but it makes much more sense than current one, original ending was pretty much identical to this:

"The Reapers' goal was to find a way to stop the spread of Dark Energy which would eventually consume everything. That's why there was so much foreshadowing about Dark Energy in ME2.

The Reapers as a whole were 'nations' of people who had fused together in the most horrific way possible to help find a way to stop the spread of the Dark Energy. The real reason for the Human Reaper was supposed to be the Reapers saving throw because they had run out of time. Humanity in Mass Effect is supposedly unique because of it's genetic diversity and represented the universe's best chance at stopping Dark Energy's spread.

The original final choice was going to be "Kill the Reapers and put your faith in the races of the galaxy in finding another way to stop the spread with what little time is left" or "Sacrifice humanity, allowing them to be horrifically processed in hopes that the end result will justify the means."

And next to it I'd like to write some more things to think about.
Remember ME2 mission on Haestom? Tali was speaking about Dark Energy.
Rest of Dark Energy foreshadowing in ME2 doesn't really go anywhere anymore if I remember right.

Why Dark Energy was put in previous games? Well, obviously because it was supposed to be one of the major "revelations" in ME3, that would have been tightly connected to the Reapers and Galaxy faith.

Here is a vote about returning original ending

Furthermore, let's compare both endings.
1st - original, 2nd - new.
In 1st we have rather logical ending, that makes Shepard to do a difficult choise. A real choise, not one that just look like choise. Also 1st version explains much more even in this short version than 2nd one. Probably Shepard was supposed to speak with Harbringer, and he was supposed to tell Shepard truth about Reapers, their purpose, their origin, reasoning, etc.. I can't even imagine, how much info, answers, revelations was removed with this ending. There was no "Magic boys", no Mass Relay explosions, really good options to choose from (even assuming that there possibly were only 2, but I can't say for sure, maybe there were more), all Shepards attempts to unite all species have sense and final goal in this version (and probably they would have taken effect in next part, as this ending leaves Shepart story opened), and this version (1st) can be continued. There probably more interesting facts I missed, so feel free to post them.

My personal opinion: Bioware chose new version because it wanted to close Mass Effect series for some unknown to me reasons, so they removed ending that would have forced them to continue story, and put what we have now on its place. And I have feeling, that this decision was made when game was almost finished, so they couldn't spoil it more, they only had time to "insert" that kid into game, Shepards bad dreams and current ending itself. All these 3 insertions look "foreign" in this game, thay just don't fit in at all.

Also all of us would like to hear anything from Bioware on this topic, wouldn't we?
