I give up - Gameplay is flawed

I've crafted as many health potions as I can but it's simply not enough. I would need like 10 of them to survive this damn battle, and I just don't have that many.
This was not the first time that sometime similar to this happened in this game, but the first time I have zero options available. So I'm done with this game. Not fun when you hit a brick wall with no options left.

If you can't beat it, turn the difficulty level down - but really, it's hardly a brick wall. It's a challenge, I'll give you that. But it is in no way impossible.

now, when you say "no options," what exactly do you mean, because players have tons of options.

I'd recommend lowering the difficulty if you're that stuck on the battle. Either that or take a serious look at your tactics. You must be doing something wrong. Who do you have in your party?

Since literally tens of thousands of people have gotten past this point without issue, you can hardly call the GAME flawed.

And you should be able to beat Zevran at level 9 with autoleveled characters, starting equipment, and default tactics setup on Easy. This is one that's chalked up to user error and not game flaw.

I always recommend targeting the mage wanderer first and having my tank use taunt. Healing one guy is way easier than healing four.
What's your party and we might be able to help you. Seriously though, you could just go for the knockdowns and stuns and hope to just pick your enemies off one at a time.../shrug

Try this, have your party concentrate on one person at a time; they go down a lot faster. Ignore Zevran except to have a mage lock him down with some control spell.
Here's another hint, vulnerability hex+lifetap=twice the life sucked out of the foe. Morigan should have both spells by now so use them liberally. Also, when she uses frost on someone, if they freeze you can shatter them if you score a crit, so save your crit causing skills for a frozen person.

Really? Tens of thousands of pope? I didn't even know that the Church has HAD that many popes!
Though it does give me a fun mental image of the Vatican as a giant LAN party.

My advice is to use CC on the yellow targets while concentrating ranged fire on the archers. I did this no problem with liberal use of pommel strike.

Well I got to level 9-ish when I am now at a point where I was at camp and whenever I try to travel anywhere from camp I get ambushed by a huge party lead by Zevran. There are way too many enemies for me to defeat no matter what tactics I use and no matter which party members I choose. It's completely and utterly hopeless. My game is completely ended and I am not happy. There is no way for me to back up and choose a different path as it seems this ambush is hard-coded into the game and it always happens. There are 11 enemies to defeat at once, and no chances to try to pick them off a few at a time or retreat. No options whatsoever other than to die.

Yes, you are indeed correct.
The entire DA:O community is stuck at this exact point, waiting for a patch...

Wynne, Alistair and Dog do really well for me (as does Leliana substituted for dog, just leave Rapid Fire on her and disable all other abilities in her tactics for the time being).
I myself have only played a mage for this battle, and I usually Force Field Zev and have Wynne Stonefist the caster the moment I see a Chain Lightning looming in my near future.
Glyph of Warding helps a lot as does Glyph of Repulsion for some breathing room.
Dog's Dread Howl was quite useful and if all else fails have him use Charge on the mage.
You might get lucky and Zevran will go all out ranged on you, but if he goes dual wielding watch out for Mask of Death if he places it on someone.
Try to take out the archers with your own ranged artillery as well as I have often found traps leading up to them. One of them gets full cover from a deathroot plant (this one will be the one closest to you on your left) and I've always had to just use Walking Bomb on that particular archer or leave them till the end. Keep other ranged characters off that specific archer or their attacks will be neutralized (by the deathroot plant I suspect).
Sten gets murdered anytime I have him for this encounter, so I advise leaving him at camp. Morrigan wasn't particularly useful for me either since she was made a bit redundant by my own character. I never had any other companions to choose from for this encounter in my playthroughs, but Shale could be useful I imagine.

I kinda liked the mental image of the typo version. Just picturing a bunch of guys with robes and funny hats sitting in a darkened room screaming at glowing monitors in Latin.

After talking to the woman that runs up to you for help, you should have some sort of option to avoid the battle IMO. You can't retreat... it just says "you have no reason" to even though the path is clear.
I guess I'll try a couple more times but I'm not having much luck.... a few good suggestions on here.... But the suggestions to change tactics and pause game to issue commands are not helpful. Been there done that about a dozen times and so far I'm still getting slaughtered. They just keep overwhelming me in sheer numbers. I'll try a few more times with some more variations of the suggestions above, but there's a point where it just gets too frustrating.
