In the DESTROY ending, all the relays blow up.

Shouldn't... shouldn't that just wipe out god knows how many ****ing planets?

Not only in DESTROY ending. In 3 ending you always get relays blown up.

The green...substance (?) enveloped the Relays and contained the explosion? It may had also been a simple radiation burst. While not an actual explosion with fire and smoke but just a radiation one.

 first of all there is a big difference between a galaxy and a solar system 
second shepard hurled a big object with lots of MASS into the relay which amplified  the explosion. the crucible just threw in something to overload the relay not blow it up, so the explosion was way smaller

I'm assuming that because of the nature of their destruction, the energy that normally would have been released in a massive explosion was instead used to send the beam of light onward. So everyone is safe.

I thought that too. The Mass Relays should have wiped pretty much everyone out the way it was presented, so in that regard even the three choices were just a simple bone thrown at the hungry dog. Then again, there are more plot-holes in the last three minutes then there were throughout over 100 hours of story leading up to it...I think they were going for a new record.

They don't blow up... Not in the same way at least.

It seems more like they just get shaken/torn apart by the stress of firing the Crucible's beam thing

Relays always blow up - reapers didn't kill organic life, Sheppard did. Earth = destroyed, Palven, Thessia, Tuchanka, Rannoch - just some small outpost that were not destroyed by Reapers might survive.

No mass relays = crysis.
