Hi there!.
Signed up for the BSN just to talk about my opinion as one of the many people who purchased Mass Effect 3.
Let me begin by saying that over the years I have played each one of the trilogy and yes when Mass Effect 2 came out I was complaining about the difference in the game in comparison to the first but I learned to love it, hell I played Mass Effect 3 and I sat there for the first hour or two having a rant with my flat mate about how terrible i thought some of the new gameplay mechanics were, but realized it was simply because I had spent the week prior and the first day ME3 was released playing Mass Effect 2 trying so hard to finish it perfectly to make ME3 even more epic and I realized the game was pretty well done and I was blown away by it.
Mass Effect 3 was filled with moving moments that had me feeling pretty emotional about a game and that surprised me because I have never really felt that way about a video game, so I was impressed until the end.
After spending a week playing Mass Effect 2, making all the right choices doing everything I could to enhance my experience in ME3 to find out that in the end there was really no ending tailored to the choices I had made in the previous two games hit me pretty hard, seeing as the games creators over the years have spent so much time raving about one of the key features being the ability to make your choices matter in the sequel.
Now I could sit down and say it was a bad ending and leave it at that, but I would rather explain a few things first so please bare with me. (I am well aware in the next few lines I will sound like a bit of a weird person.)
I was 18 when the first Mass Effect came out, and it was my favourite game and I have played it many times, it blew me away the character dialogues, the choices you could make, the environment and even the NPC personalities had me hooked.
As mentioned above I have played Mass Effect 1 a couple of times, as well as Mass Effect 2 and a few different games for escapism during some difficult times and because of that escapism I grew attached to the characters and the story having the ability to influence the next game with the choices in the previous really draws you and makes you content to see that what you did really did matter, but then you get through the awesome Mass Effect 3 to see the apple that spoils the whole tree aka the ending...probably a bad analogy but still you get what i'm saying.
I may have been a little too attached to the game, but hell I got to the end of Mass Effect 3 and I felt pretty raw about it probably a bit more so then someone normally should, all those choices eventually mean nothing with your rather limited and obtuse ending, people can go on about how it doesnt have the hollywood happy ending or it's more realism but hell I dont expect them to share the same opinion but really it's a video game no matter what you do it's not real its a game about aliens and ancient technologies in space it's pretty darn hollywood as it is! So what is the harm in having a bubbly happy ending where everyone lives minus a few here and there due to CHOICES made through out the trilogy?
I am not going to sit down and beg and plead for a set of new endings or even new DLC packs but I hope that Eaoware as a whole decides to honor the large group of fans who have made them there millions and are not happy with the conclusion to this 5 year trilogy rather then just saying oh well you gave us your money so deal with it.
P.S Had an idea if you ever made different endings where no one dies and the mass relays don't explode destroying everything, why not make an epilogue DLC just another say 5-6 hours of different missions wrapping up each characters story whether it be major or very minor character just to give you a more detailed and closed ending, but thats what I can wish for lol probably won't happen though.
Anyway thank you for finally allowing me to vent my opinion to the public, yes I am aware I sound like some sort of over the top person who makes the Mass Effect trilogy sound like it's the most important thing ever and I dont care if it sounds pathetic, but I feel sad and angry about the conclusion to the trilogy and I believe for the time I have invested playing this game and the money I have spent on DLC packs and the games themselves I deserve to atleast be able to speak my mind.
With all of that said I will say please, please EAioware listen to the large group of people complaining about this ending and really do something about it.
Also my grammar may be poor and it may sound a little incoherent but it's very late here in Aus!.
Mass Effect 3 Ending, in my opinion.
