Ending - Why no common sense choice?

Yet none of these choices are based on the facts presented at the time or assumed intelligence of the parties involved (Shepard and the Catalyst).
If common sense was applied, we would ask the Catalyst to have the Reapers stand down, whilst a new solution for the chaos is considered, discussed, and agreed upon. The Catalyst readily admits that it controls the Reapers, it also clearly is capable of controlling them across the galaxy without destroying mass relays. The Catalyst also states emthatically that the current solution will no longer work, so, given how advanced of an AI it must be to have deduced this and be open to Shepard providing an alternative solution, then it would have no issues seeing the logic in the simple solution of having the Reaper stop whilst they found an alternative solution.
Why is this choice left out?
It seems like BioWare only wanted to present choices that resulted in Shepard having a heroic death and the destruction of the mass relays. But neither of those had to happen based on the information available and those involved.
I don't mind him dieing, I don't mind the relays being destroyed, I don't mind the results of the three choices, but what annoys me the most is there is a fourth choice there you simply aren't allowed to choose. If you want those three choices to be the only ones available then make them the ONLY viable choices, don't just refuse to let us choose anything else.
I really want to rant more about this, but... why... just tell me why you did this BioWare, having that fourth unselectable choice just makes it all so very pointless and frustrating.

Thats like saving a country by destroying the ability for air travel, and leaving most people screwed by X, where X is the amount of people they dint have around them...... meaning if you just lived in a house somewhere in a remote place.... you've got no food, or even power

Then she just accepts this stupid choice that was given by a character introduced one minute prior, without any hesitation.
Shepard would never do that.

It is a complete Shepard character assassination. EVERY time the reapers or others have said that her fight was pointless, she told them they were wrong and she was going to find a way.

THIS. I kept remembering all the times when people would tell Shepard, this is the way it's always been or has to be, and she would be like, I've got a better idea. I'm going to do this because it makes more sense.

Yes, even the simple folk that we are can see better solutions than the choices given, yet Shepard, who is infinitely more capable than any of us, just accept the crap thrown infront of him.

I was thinking this as I was beating the game. Shepard wouldn't just accept the crap thrown in his/her face! He/she would find another way!

This, this with bells on.
We are expected to be happy with an ending where Shepard meekly agrees with the creator and controller of the Reapers, where no questions are asked, where no fight is given? Let me just say bollox to that.
I mean FFS, this StarChild made him kill Anderson just minutes before (he controls the reapers, the reapers controlled TIM, TIM made him pull the riggger) yet we are to just blindly accpet the fact that Shepard is OK with this and is willing to end it based on the StarChild's options? Again, absolute bollox, huge great big hairy ones.
Ach, I am scunnered with it. An amazing journey, one I had so much fun on, with an ending that can only be described as a pool of pish.
