Sure, the protheans sorta built one. And yeah, MABYE the races of Mass Effect could rebuild some relays before most organic life died out. But theres one problem...

The relays work by linking to other relays. So even if you could build them, you would need to place the link where you needed it to go. The reapers could do this because they could fly that far without needing the relays.

Most of the galaxy is stuck in the Sol Relay. All quarians would be dead. all turians would be dead. Krogan might adapt. I guess asari can eat human food =/.

As for the people living on the citadel? It exploded, so....... might as well been called Sunnydale and the relay that leads back to the reapers in dark space be called a hell mouth.....

There's also the fact that the epilogue makes it clear that even generations after Shepard they still don't have relay-level space travel again.

Regardless of if it'd be possible or not, the game says that it didn't happen.

Good points.

Yeah, I felt really bad about the Citadel. So, all that trouble of building up the Citadel Defense Force and saving the Council from Cerberus were for naught, since everyone on the Citadel apparently died anyway (including the Council, presumably). Ugh. So much for choices mattering...

Um protheans built a mass relay.. remember ME1?
( regardless they were a hyper advanced alien race )

Also, it was never stated that FTL was destroyed and convention FTL is about 12 light years a day.

Also according to the guardian - "Most of your Technology will be destroyed."

So by space magic not only are the reapers and the Relays destroyed, but most technology as well. (Unless you did the control or merge ending). So if you chose Destroy you put the galaxy back in pre-ftl spaceflight era. There will not be any new relays for centuries as the technology will have to be rediscovered without the groundwork of the reaper tech.

This is ignoring the fact that the bulk of each races fleets are trapped in SOL with no way home (IE FTL is gone).

So wait, you're saying that we will just "forget" how to make an FTL drive? lol

The Protheans barely managed to make a mini-relay and that was WITH the heart of the mass relay network (the Citadel) intact.

you do realize how complicted that is right? thats like saying all homes were destroyed AND all power tools.

you know how hard it would be to rebuild enough power tools to ever build houses as efficiently?

sure people remember how to rebuild powertools, but in the mean time they have to deal with rock attached to sticks? people are going to die in misery before things get even close to normal.....

Actually the ships are still capable of FTL flight, the Relays were to make transport faster over greater distances. Sure they were needed because it would take years with standard FTL travel to reach different sectors. I am sure some of the fleets would make an attempt to reach thier homeworlds agian, the Quarian would be easy, they were already wondering nomads. The Asari live 1000 years as long as they have the supplies and fuel who cares if it takes a decade to return and help rebuild. The Taurin and Krogan are probably the ones that would most stuck.

In the ending after the credits we hear the story of the Shepard, However they don't outright say there is no more interstellar travel, It seems to me more like the Grand Father even said she would be able to go to the stars and he sounds fairly certain.of this. Maybe they finally got the Mass Relay's rebuilt, maybe they have improved the normal FTL drive who knows a good writing team would find a way to work with the ending.

The ending is full of wholes and down right idiotic unless they change it OR explain it in someway witch could only happen through space magic , we will never no the answers to these questions

Don't forget, all of the ships in the fleet were probably damaged by the energy burst like the Normandy, so add in time to repair before they go sauntering off.  And that's making the laughable assumption that the Sol system has enough supplies to repair a galactic fleet.

And they can't just settle in.  Ignoring the overpopulation problem, Quarians (whose homeworld, btw, is almost as far away from earth as it is possible to be and still be in the galaxy) and the Turians have different DNA than humans.  Earth can not support them.

So unless they brought along a decade's worth of supplies, everyone in the fleet is probably going to die of starvation or ship disrepair.

So everyone is overlooking the part where flying across a constellation can nearly use up all your fuel so how are your meant to travel for years in ftl without a few fueling stations along the way?

Yeah and HOW exactly did every organic species suddenly merge with tech in the merge ending?

Or HOW exactly did the Geth and EDI also die when the Reapers did as they are basically programs?

And HOW did a pulse of energy kill the reapers and destroy the relays while not destroying the systems?

The Guardian states CLEARLY that "Most of your technology will be destroyed."  Now you can ignore that and think that everything is okay later and then ignore the rest of the space magic endings, but it is clear that through some kind of space magic that EEZO was rendered inert or something.

Yea, building one mass relay wouldn't be enough. The protheans made the conduit with the help of currently existing mass relays as well as the citadel. So essentially, they're going to need to build the citadel all over again (which no one knows how to do) and then build one mass relay at the start, and ANOTHER mass relay at their destination before they can start using mass effect travel.

In other words, it's not happening. Now all we need to do is wait about 26 thousand years for the Emperor to show up and lead us on the Great Crusade to reconquer our lost empire.

Mass Effect is dead, all hail 40k. FOR THE EMPEROR!

In reality, it turns out you were never fighting for Humanity, or the Turians, or the Quarians, or any of them, you were fighting simply for the next cycle. Every single relay went supernova like the one in The Arrival DLC. That means Earth, Rannoch, Thessia, Pavelon, and all the other planets with a relay nearby are destroyed, as is most if not all of the fleet in orbit above Earth. Everybody is dead or going to die from not being able to receive supplies. The only people to survive would be colonies on garden worlds that weren't anywhere near a relay. Great job Bioware, way to make all that work of ending the Geth and Quarian war and curing the genophage worthless.

John you, and I have been beating our point out this is the only otherside arguement that has been presented.

1. FTL still exist! NYAH!!!  (When it was stated fuel capacity won't allow you to just fly out into the black without Mass Relay tech)

2. Protheans/Asari did it!  (Asari were investigating it, not done it.  Protheans were far more advanced than our species.  Fact is no one in current time had figure it out yet.)

3. They can just rebuild they still have the knowledge.  (But do they still have the tech to rebuild?  You don't even know how they will co-exist with all these alien races now stranded on Earth.)

Even beyond shepard dying (I'd be ok with a martyr ending if there were other choices, at all) the mass relays blowing up was probably the worst part of the ending. It's like, no matter what you do the galaxy is sent back to the stone age. As far as I'm concerned the reapers won because the current cycle is over.
