Just wanted you to see an unbiased article from somebody outside of the game industry about how those new DLC may harm EA on the long run.

From the article

She went on to say that “Players rant, they know nothing about this DLC that’s coming out other than its name and it’s like “the game must be incomplete, the game must be ruined.”

This is probably one of those foot in mouth moments.

Interesting thoughts, to say the least.

This centers on the thesis of this whole issue.

BioWare may argue that this is why they released “From Ashes” on the first day – so that fans could play that side mission alongside every other – but that doesn’t make any more sense than simply releasing that story-line as part of the main game itself. Some critics have said that only “fanatics” will really care or be impacted by the day-one DLC.

But doesn’t that just translate into “biggest fans?”

In other words, if only the game’s biggest fans would care about this, then BioWare is effectively punishing them by charging more for content only they would care about. One can quickly begin to see how fans might feel screwed over – especially the game’s “fanatics.”

This is why people don't like it.

The prothean squadmate was in the leaked Mass Effect 3 script. That means he was part of the original narrative, but they act as though he was a last minute addition to the story while the game was being polished.

They cut him and sold him as DLC. Munny. S'all about munny.

But... Casey was quoted to say that wait until you know what it is before bashing it, and then the reviewer said it was required for the plot?

No! Javik isn't even available for the last two story missions I've played! He is not important! The DLC adds some nice touches that relate to some previously unknown lore, but it is in no way important. The DLC is brilliant yes, and Javik is too, but it is not integral to the plot. Less so than Arrival or Lair of the Shadow Broker were.

Yours and mine both. I don't want to support a Bioware that "fixes" what isn't broken, caters to those who aren't fans of their RPGs, recycles environments, and puts story on the backburner.

It's not about plot relevance, it's about Bioware removing a squadmate from the game and then selling him back.

Also, Ashley/Kaidan isn't available until the final third of the game; I guess they aren't important either.

I agree that this is pure exploitation. EA/BW is doing this just because they know we are suckers.

Javik has been known to be in the game for nearly half a year. He has VA work interacting with main game characters, and we know that VA has been done for atleast 6 months. It is a fact that he was developed alongside the rest of the game, and was planned the entire time.

They simply removed him and sold him seperately. There is no other way to look at this. They took a piece of their finished game, removed it, and decided to charge extra for it. This is like cutting a sub plot out of a movie and making people pay more for it.

This can not be tolerated.

Of course it can be, because enough people will spend money on it.

It's not really Forbes, but contributers to its online blog site.

http://www.digiday.c...ll-half-huffpo/

The editorial quality simply isn't the same on this side of the Forbes brand - many more grammatical and spelling errors that you simply don't see in the actual Forbes magazine, for example.

I think the correct phrasing would be: "it shoudn't be tolerated".

Excellent article. I personally dont feel too agrieved, as I got the DLC with my N7 CE, but I could understand , after having played it (and it is VERY good, and the addition of this character is instrumental in allowing you a full understanding of the History between the reapers and the protheons; however, if its true some hackers have investigated the disk, finding it was part of the main game, id be quite disapointed with Casey Hudson. Id imagine the game without this DLC, wouldnt be as "complete" (or enjoyable). My advice on this one, is, if you havent got the DLC, get it. I think its worth it.But bioware, if your reading this, then you should be more cafeful in future, as Fans are not idiots, and we, the gamer and customer should always be treated with respect.

Me Personally , I think bioware have a lot of talent, and I absolutly love this series with ME2 (so far, as only 7 hours in on ME3) being the best game ive ever played.

Its a forbes "related" site. And this guy doesnt have an axe to grind with Bioware. Sooner or later some other media outlet will catch on.

So we can all agree that Bioware has screwed up its game and old fanbase with greedy corporate tactics and casualized views of their game? Dont forget the "We want the Call of Duty- audience" article and the leaked script showing that the Prothean was already in the game times ago.

I was just about to post this. Somebody finally gets it and decided to write about it rather than disregard it in favor of the more appealing (for Bioware) "trolls, sexists and homophobes!" narrative. Bravo Forbes.

It's actually sad that one of the few people who actually tried to look for other reasons for the hate aside the ones forced to us by social networks is one guy from a field usually outside gaming itself.

Gaming journalists should try and look for more than one source. Even this article didn't completely sided with the haters, it just pointed out th parts that actually made sense out of the complains.

Well this is quite irritating, how can Bioware or EA be okay with this sort of treatment? Seems very penny pinching to me.

Glad that someone saw that it wasn't all Homophobes and Hepler trollers that were annoyed about things.

I remember kotaku and gamespot claiming the only way people could take issue with me3 dlc was they were secretly homophobes or hated that fat chick that writes for dragon age games, bums me out that gaming journalism is garbage these days.

You guys will suffer a lot less cognitive dissonance if you stop treating Bioware and EA as separate entities. EA runs Bioware.

No, no, no. You can't just give them money and then tell them "But don't keep screwing us over because otherwise we won't give you money". You're still rewarding them for doing exactly what you're scolding them for.

Yeah, Asking didn't get us anything until now. Asking and giving money for the mistake we don't want them to do  won't be better.
