Bump!

An addendum from the same writer talking about the odd way ME3 chose to divide the gameplay time and cutscene time:

Another good read.

You might not want to bump the thread too much, it might cause it to get locked. Better to just hope that people start paying attention to it.

I'll just bump it one more time. Just wanted people to read these articles. I did my part.

I still don't understand why the DLC character wasn't free on day one, I mean Zaeed already was.

Last Bump!

Please, read the articles. They are really good analysis on the bad choices EA made on ME3. Not hate articles, just a level headed criticism.

Excellent article. I personally dont feel too agrieved, as I got the DLC with my N7 CE, but I could understand , after having played it (and it is VERY good, and the addition of this character is instrumental in allowing you a full understanding of the History between the reapers and the protheons; however, if its true some hackers have investigated the disk, finding it was part of the main game, id be quite disapointed with Casey Hudson. Id imagine the game without this DLC, wouldnt be as "complete" (or enjoyable). My advice on this one, is, if you havent got the DLC, get it. I think its worth it.But bioware, if your reading this, then you should be more cafeful in future, as Fans are not idiots, and we, the gamer and customer should always be treated with respect.

Me Personally , I think bioware have a lot of talent, and I absolutly love this series with ME2 (so far, as only 7 hours in on ME3) being the best game ive ever played.

No, no, no. You can't just give them money and then tell them "But don't keep screwing us over because otherwise we won't give you money". You're still rewarding them for doing exactly what you're scolding them for.

Yeah, Asking didn't get us anything until now. Asking and giving money for the mistake we don't want them to do  won't be better.

Yes but I went for the N& CE before I even knew the From ashes DLC was going to be on it. so for me, its a bonus. I do feel for the people who bough the SE and now have to pay for that. Thats my view.

That isn't even the job of a producer.

Thanks for the post, it was an interesting read. It left out the bits about Origin and Steam but PC users are used to be being neglected. Can't even get controller support for an engine with it built in or FOV adjustments.

No! Javik isn't even available for the last two story missions I've played! He is not important! The DLC adds some nice touches that relate to some previously unknown lore, but it is in no way important. The DLC is brilliant yes, and Javik is too, but it is not integral to the plot. Less so than Arrival or Lair of the Shadow Broker were.

It's not about plot relevance, it's about Bioware removing a squadmate from the game and then selling him back.

Also, Ashley/Kaidan isn't available until the final third of the game; I guess they aren't important either.

I say let them continue with these questionable business practices, it will lead them on this path to mediocrity. Other studios have had the same thing happen to them and others have taken their place. It goes without saying that most of these decisions reek of EA's stench, but that's the price to be paid for working with a big developer.

They'll be financially well off for the foreseeable future, but the loyalty from old fans that allowed them to get to the third game wont be back. I see a future of trying and dropping new IPs for some time or doing marginally successful games that will be as bland as their competitors.

Superb article. Does an amazing job in articulating the problem with EA Bioware's practices and the problem with it. The problem is not DLC. We want DLC, when it's done well (Red Dead Redemption, GTAIV, Oblivion). What we don't want is content cut from the game to sell on later. Not to mention that Mass Effect 3 (I played my friend's copy) was just a massive disappointment that catered to everyone but the fans regardless of the DLC. Bioware were once my favourite developer and it's truly heartbreaking to see such a fall from grace. Now proudly boycotting Bioware. Hopefully, they return to form in the near future but they continue down this road I honestly wouldn't care to see them go under, which is something I once thought I'd never say.

You wouldn't be saying that if you played Priority: Thessia with Javik on your team. He changes the entire tone of the mission and gives it hope in a hopeless moment.

article hits the issue in the head

good read, and sooooo true, specially about brand loyalty.

PS: Bioware I convinced one of my friends to fork money to BUY mass effect 2 after we pirated ME1 and liked it so much, that is the brand loyalty the writer talks about, and I gave him 30% of the price of the game (is a lot of money for non working 3 world teens); now I am finally working and earning enough to buy myself an used car, so I decided it was my turn to give Bioware some of my love, so I preordered CE mass effect 3 right away, then I learned about the day 1 DLC and felt rather bad about it, even if I am getting it anyways, it feels like a stab in the back.

PS2:

I got my Shepards by playing in his PC (nothing illegal about that EA so no Ban plz and he bough ME1 on a steam sale, so no longer Illegal on that regard either) we live next door and we are bleeding ourselves because the CE i ordered won't get to my country until the 15, we are waiting patiently for ME3, I am dodging spoilers like a boss, but moves like the day 1 DLC and articles like this are making me re evaluate the high esteem I have for Bioware.

Sincerely yours a Retro Gamer that has beaten most snes/psone RPGs (at least all the good ones) and has found a single new franchise to follow and that is ME.

You guys will suffer a lot less cognitive dissonance if you stop treating Bioware and EA as separate entities. EA runs Bioware.

BioWare is a part of EA, it's their solution to chaos.

That article very much sums up my thoughts on the DLC.

The only people who would feel slighted are "fanatics", huh? Well good job punishing people who care a lot about your games, BioWare. Next time you come out with a new series I'll be sure to not care about it enough to buy it new. I'll Probably buy it used instead. Maybe rent it.

I will never purchase Mass Effect 3 solely on this issue, i'll just rely on watching streams.
