Just wanted you to see an unbiased article from somebody outside of the game industry about how those new DLC may harm EA on the long run.

A gaming journalist is an unbiased outsider?

Yeah I saw this. Great read especially from a site that doesn't really talk about video games in general.

It's gone so far now that I don't even blame the developers/publishers anymore for doing this kind of thing. Gamers have shown them that they will tolerate it and keep bending over to fork out more cash.

To illustrate this point: You can buy Spectre and Veteran packs for Multiplayer for MSP/Cash... and people are doing it happily.

Theses Items are in the actual game already and it takes a ridiculously short amount of time to acquire the in-game credits to purchase them but because the option is there to 'speed things along' for a small amount, people do it. One gamer on the Xbox Forums claimed they had bought 10 Spectre packs... an extra $20 on top of the base price of the game... for content that's already available on the disc.

They're effectively paying the distributor, the publisher and the developer to not play the game they've just bought to play.

Who wouldn't milk customers like that for all they have?

1. Politicians are meant to be above corruption. Are they?
2. Gaming journalists aren't really known for their uncompromising adherence to the tenants of the fourth estate.

I just laugh at all the whining over DLC because it proves that Bioware or any other developer just can't win. If all you create is item pack DLCs, people complain that they're you're just making fluff and not adding any content to the game. If you make story based DLCs people complain that it should have been in the game to begin with.

Also I think its about time people stopped acting like all this hate is over Day one DLC, because its not. Out of all the crap people griped about when it came to DA2, no one, not even the biggest vemon spewing haters complained about DA2's day one DLC The Exiled Prince. The only reason theres such a hate-on over the DLC this time is because its a Prothean and you all want it, so your throwing a hissy fit like a little kid because your mommy told you could only have one snack instead of two.

Further I laugh my *** off at the idea of Forbes condeming game DLC while having no problems with the Auto industrie's massive ripoff system of optional packages.

How depressing that someone was dumb enough to leave actual evidence in the base game code of the content that was removed for the DLC. How sad that someone decided to lie about it. Definitely going to be my last BW game. One of the main tenants of my company's "vision 2020" strategy is "focus on the customer." I think BW has lost sight of that. Sure, they fleeced me for $10 b/c I wasn't about to miss the extra character and I had to finish the ME series. However, they've lost out on all future revenue from my purchases. Not a very good long term strategy.

This blogger makes some really solid points. What's the point of releasing what is essentially an expansion if you've already got it the day the initial product comes out? Why destroy the trust of your own fanbase?

Does EA plan on dismantling Bioware after this series? I got hooked during the first Mass Effect, so I stayed true to the series, but I can't justify continuing purchases from Bioware after this. As a completionist, it'll drive me crazy, but I don't want to double the price of the game just to have all the pieces of it.

And yet I don't see you disputing any points the article has made, but have just made a generalization about all Journalists related to gaming.

First of all, the reason no-one complained about the day 1 DLC for DA2 was because they were complaining about how much the game itself sucked. Second of all, we arent angry because we feel entitled to the dlc or some stupid **** like that, its because it was already in the damn game and got taken out to sell and because it contains a goddamn canon character that definately should be in the game. Here's a picture to illustrate my point.

But... Casey was quoted to say that wait until you know what it is before bashing it, and then the reviewer said it was required for the plot?

No! Javik isn't even available for the last two story missions I've played! He is not important! The DLC adds some nice touches that relate to some previously unknown lore, but it is in no way important. The DLC is brilliant yes, and Javik is too, but it is not integral to the plot. Less so than Arrival or Lair of the Shadow Broker were.

Doesn't matter.

You're missing the point. We're already paying $60+ for the game. Whenever they announce "Day 1" DLC, does anyone ever go "Oh thank God! Now my new game will cost $70!" DLC is a slap in the face to people who enjoy the game because they are forced to pay extra to fully experience the game.

And before someone says it, expansion packs and DLC are two very different things. Look at Starcraft. The devs spent a year after release of the base game crafting 3 new single player campaigns that were essentially a sequel to the first game's campaign, and they drastically overhauled how multiplayer plays. Brood War was a love letter to fans of the game, and we paid what, $30, $40 for it? Regardless, everyone was more than happy to buy it because it was a.) developed after the game was released, and b.) essentially doubled the game's content for a modest fee.

Asking people if they want to buy optional heated seats are not the equivalent of Day 1 DLC. Removing 4th gear and charging extra for the privlage of driving your car properly is the equavalent of Day 1 DLC.

Another News. Apparently Jarvik, the character itself is STILL in the code of the game without the "From Ashes" installed:

By changing ONE line of code, this guy unlocked Jarvik to play, however the mission is still unavailable.

I'm not positive if it's 100% GENUINe, if one of you guys has some programming expertise, could you check and reply here?

It would be a great service to either prove the haters wrong or to stack up another punch EA gave us

I hate that they tried to lie to their previously loyal fanbase about this DLC. What's worse is that it is a stupid and obvious lie.

"Did you steal the cookie?"

"No."

"But your hand is still in the cookie jar."

"No, it isn't."

So glad I didn't buy this. Can't wait til they figure out how to do the same for console, because they will. It's like buying a car, and selling the side view mirrors for extra. What an insult.

Yeah I feel scamed even if its only $10 feeling like you got conned into giving money to someone is a bad feeling. Buying a video game shouldn't make you feel like you got scamed

not even. its like buying a car and asking where the whipers are and they tell you that you have to pay $50 more for them then you pay the $50 and they reach underneath the car and grab the whipers which where taped to the bottom of your car hidden from you.

And this makes me glad that I didn't buy this game. I'll wait a couple of years when the whole game is being sold for $5.
