The only good thing about the endings is that Deus Ex was a good game, and they copied the endings straight from there.

    blow up all the computers
  /
-- merge with the computers
 \\
control the computers to control the people

Also anyone notice how the entire ending platform area looks exactly like a dialogue wheel? Except there's actually a third option, maybe to make you think you have freedom of choice after every single other dialogue wheel in this game is cut down to either two decisions. Might as well play in action mode because there is no roleplaying to be found here.

Edit: Oh yeah, and the music was good. I'll probably get the soundtrack and rage every time I listen to the song.

The difference is that Deus Ex is in part a philosophical exploration of the conflict between man vs machine.

Whereas in ME3, the theme of man vs machine is not only not present, it is in fact contradicted by the narrative. The only real "man vs machine" subplot in the series is the war between the geth and the quarians and that 1. Ends in peace if you do it right and 2. was a metaphor for slavery anyway.

Both games engage the concept of transhumanism, but in different ways. After mass effect appeared to be taking a different approach to it I was kind of sad to see it boil down to the same scenario at the end.
