So, when do I get to do it? You know, without destroying everything that was fought for in the process?

Earth was destroyed because the Citadel exploded right above it, and the relay nearby went supernova.

I would have preferred the ME3 ending at the point where the entire fleet was heading to the Earth. Leaving the battle for Earth and rest of the planet on next installment. Why on Earth Bioware believed that entire series should be limited to 3 just for sake of keeping the trilogy's definition I do not know. It absolutely doesn't make any sense to me.

Pretty much right on. Lol, they drive this marketing ploy into the damn ground. And then...we learn you can't even take Earth back. No matter what decisions you make, the Citadel is going to blow up above earth, come crashing down, and create an extinction-level impact event down on Earth.
Congrats on winning the game.

Pretty sure "take back the Earth" was just a marketing spin to attract the shooter crowd. I mean that was barely relevant to the actual plot.

Just like in ME2.
fight for the who? suicide mission? i saved evebody.....
well I dint save everybody, legion and jacob died. was it because of the choices i made? yes. but the choices i was given were miss communicated to me.
just the same as "take earth back". the game says we need to assemble military forces and war assets to do that. but those assets do next to nothing AND everyone dies anyway.......
