1. Dog always has 100% approval for your main character. (This isn't that significant, but...)
2. Dog is strong early in the game. Later on, he gets weaker due to lack of equipment and talents.
3. There is some funny dialogue banter with your party members about Dog when he is in your party.
4. Shale is stronger than Dog and much more flexible (Melee/Ranged vs just Melee)
5.  Dog and Shale can have all their talents maxed out before game's end.   Dog does this earlier than anyone because it has so few.

The only thing i got from this is... Shale is better than Dog.

Dog is the #2 mage killer, with #1 being the Mana Clash spell.

If i plan on using dog ALOT should i just pump Strength? or should i throw in some constitution for AoE protection?

I don't think Dog gets any effect from frost/flaming/telekinetic weapon buffs…

I never took him with me once I had another 4th party member to bring along. He is cute but not that amazing in combat and he doesnt speak much thus wasting one spot of another party member with actual hilarious dialogue and far more versatile abilities.

I, for one, think that the dog is a great companion. He helps me off-tank and beats the hell out of mages. He's got decent attack and defense. He's one of the best companions in my opinion... also, there are several times in the game where he actually take part in conversations :)

Ah, the joys of people who don't care about "who tanks, who does DPS, who runs in circles screaming". I am one such person and I hardly think of anything more then, will I bring a dedicated healer? My rogue's playthrough right now, I have no "tank" Its me(melee rogue), Morrigan, Sten, and dog. that'll be the group I plan on using the bulk of the game, if not the entire way through.

Dog is doing tons better than Sten is in my current run. Sten is the one weak spot in my group.

As DaeFaron inferred above: You don't need a tank.  A devoted tank is actually a fairly new concept, especially to single-player RPG's.

It's so wierd when Dog is buffed with the weapon buffs. He's on fire!

Would that be part of the "=Dog is a weapon" formula?  Posted Image

If you like dialog there are a few "conversations" between Dog and Lelianna or Sten.  I'm not sure about the other characters.

I've been using Dog a bit less lately now that I have a Blight Wolf to play with and Sten is dying a lot less than he was early on.  But I'm thinking of tossing him back in for a few battles along with the wolf and watch them destroy everything in their paths.

3 mages means no tank, you just CC everything on the planet at once.

I've had Alistair and Morrigan and Wynn interact with Dog at camp a couple times each.  There's a very funny one involving Morrigan and Dog.

Love him with my archer. He's great at charging into mages and bosses, overwhelm being a fantastic kill move for him on these, and he can tear the heck out of a line of bowmen. Add Growl and Howl to that, and he just can't be beat. The more I play (3rd run-thru now) the more I use him. My current run-thru with my archer has had him as a party member everytime it was possible.

Another reason dog is awesome: If you get trapped in the deep roads he makes a tasty snack. I mean it is that, or darkspawn....your choice.

I love his interactions at camp.  I'm gonna throw him back in my party to see if he has any more "conversations" with characters other than Lelianna and Sten while walking around town.
