In my second playthrough I noticed you can upgrade your weapon after 5

I heard you can upgrade it to 10 and I wanted to max it ASAP.

but I cannot upgrade my weapon past 7...

I finished the mission where you get garrus... and my assumption is that after some missions i will be able to upgrade the weapon past 7, but can anyone confrim this?
