I have to admit, this feels very much like the reaction to the ending of Fallout 3 (although admittedly this ending was far worse and more painful to endure)  - that reaction led directly to Broken Steel being made as DLC and fixed that and some other items that had really stood out as issues.  And it absolutely did fix things - try playing that now without Broken Steel, and it just seems strange.  So if we get "Broken Steel" for this, paid DLC or not, I'm sure people will very quickly forget about this issue and the fury it has caused.  If not, well, I'll just stop before the ending if I decide to play again.

That being said, I loved Dragon Age 2, so what do I know?

Maybe they should call it, "Broken Relay". They'd still have to erase those last ten minutes.

Yup, while I think it is very unlikely, Bioware does have the opportunity to nip this in the bud and turn around the perception of the game's ending. Again, I don't think it will happen, but I think it could, Fallout 3 and Witcher 1 both have proven you can re-release updated and edited content to improve the quality and longevity of a game.

that would never work, NO ONE WOULD BUY THAT

*looks at broken steel rating, rating best DLC of all time, is currently the best selling DLC of all time*

- facetious

The thing about fallout 3, that ending while had it had some stupid moments (why couldn't i just have my giant radiation immune mutant buddy go in there) it brought closer to a well done story and made sense. Top it off with some well done little epilogue speeches based on your actions and it was a fitting conclusion. Broken steel took that and made it better, not actually fixing a bad ending but improving upon the game as a whole.

Anything bioware does at this point wouldn't be improving upon it, it would be fixing the abortion of an ending we got it.

So here is to hoping we have no more space wizard with illogical ideas appearing at the nth hour and having you choose what your favorite color is.

I don't think the last few minutes of ME 3 are all that bad I just wish there was a happy ending to the story. Why can't we save the Mass Relays? Why can't Shepard live happily ever after with his LI? Why can't we get the geth to rebuild the Mass Relays so that all the other races can go home? I don't think we should have to have a sad ending.

It needs more variations in the endings big time. It needs a happy ending and more explanation to other ones and a way to prevent the relays from being destroyed

while I didn't really care for the ending in Fallout 3, it did bring a sense of closure and actually felt like a heroic sacrifice that fit into the mold of the game and actually made sense. Broken Steel is one of my all favorite DLCs not just because it extends the game and offers my character life, but it was fun too.
Mass Effect 3 would definitely benefit from something similar to dilute the mess of an ending we have been cursed with.

from what I understand, I kinda know what kind of plot would save the trilogy from its ending...

I hate to say that but Bioware its not going to Change nothing :

Yes Fallout 3 did - its Bethesda

Yes Witcher 1 & 2 get extended versions for free - Its CDKProject

They are going to blame the Bad endings on us , saying we dont understand and to get over it , remember DA2 , Bioware never going to say they did somenthing wrong , never , they blame on us or dont say nothing at all , a fix , in my opinion : NEVER

The Fallout 3 ending was a very different situation. There wasn't enough time to complete a proper ending so it was cut short. Broken Steel is how it was originally intended to end. ME3 on the other hand ended as planned :/

Besides, the devs have already said there won't be post-endgame dlc.

I'll go ahead and say that I thought the ending to Fallout 3 (pre-broken steel) was fine. I like games that have an end, so that worked for me. But the point is, it ENDED. It gave closure. It resolved things. The ME3 ending, such as it is, does nothing like that.

Bioware and EA will have to address the ending if they want to continue the Mass Effect series. There's no way around that.
Sure, one might say that casual fans probably don't care but I guarantee that they do. Even if someone had only started with Mass Effect 3 look at how badly the story takes a dive. They'd be incredibly upset at what happened. I expect a lot of USED copies to flood stores over the next couple of weeks.

The ride from beginning to the last fifteen (or so) minutes were amazing. I really loved just hanging out and talking with my allies. Most games don't really try to get you to build relationships with their characters and the ones that do typically get most of it wrong. The one thing Ive admired about Mass Effect is that those interactions feel genuine.

How could you not get a smile on their face when you go shooting with Garrus on the Citedel? Or feel sad or get all teary-eyed when Legion made his sacrifice to give the geth the ability to think freely?

I feel very embrassed admitting this: I never knew I could get so attached to a video game story and it's characters but I did with Mass Effect. Ultimately, I feel like Bioware has spit in my face with the endings provided. It doesn't provide closure, it just incites anger and hostility towards Bioware, EA, and the writers especially.

Bioware has already taken a serious hit from the direction Dragon Age II went. Can they really retain loayl fans if they don't act on this issue? I doubt it.

I was easily ready to call this the best game in the series and planned on giving it a high score in my review. Now I can't even bring myself to review the game nor can I believe that fellow reviewers have glossed over the ending completely.

No Post-Game DLC? No money from my wallet. Weee!

Edit:

I'm with PixelGorilla with this. I thought it was great, and was greatly enjoyed 1, 2 and all of 3 till I got to the end.. and now? After playing 1 for at the very LEAST 200 hours, and 2 for at least 120, I'll never play them again. I won't be playing through ME3 again either. I won't be buying any mid-game ME3 DLC. The way they ended the game really, really ENDED Mass Effect.

I won't buy and other ME related product ever again either.

This is what I don't understand, how could the devs say ME3 was the best place to start for new players?  If I was a new player, after reaching the end I sure as hell wouldn't want to go and play the rest of the series.

It's just marketing speak to see a lot of copies out the gate.

It would actually help them more if they'd release a trilogy pack at release instead of telling people you can jump in at ME3. You really can't without feeling lost and even if you do make that jump, you'll just end up mad about it.
