So I thought I did pretty well on my first playthrough, despite having totally forgot about grissom academy and missed the entire mission. Anyway, during my time on these forums raging about the ending, I've come across a few threads where people said that miranda lived during the events of the sanctuary mission. This surprised me since I thought it was unavoidable, since it didn't seem to me like I had missed anything or done anything wrong during the mission.

So what are the criteria to keep miranda alive?

I didn't know she could die. She was wounded but seemed very much alive. How does she die?

Romance her (ME2 or 3) and she'll survive, I heard...

she has to be your continued love interest... i.e. must romance her in ME2 then continue it in ME3. So when you first meet her tell her you still love her, talk to her message thing in the spectre terminal, give her alliance access and kiss her in the apt.

I didn't romance her and she lived.
I think you just have to do everything else for her, give her Alliance network access, etc.

I dont know exactly, but she lived on my playthrough and thanked me for letting her know Kai Lang was involved so she could take precautions during an earlier conversation i had with her.

I did not romance her either.

You basically save Oriana using paragon/renegade conversation option, she pushes him out of a window and she just kind of lays down and dies saying that its too late for her.

She did not die in my game. I carried over and continued a Talimance.

No she doesn't have to be a love interest. I just played through the game with my Fem Shep and Miranda lived. What you do is get her loyalty in ME2 and then when you see her in ME3 during one of your conversations you have the option of waring her about Kai Leng or whatever his name is. If you warn her she'll live, if you don't she die.

High enough Paragon (Or Renegade also i guess), talk her father into a deal to let Oriana go and leave with his life. He lets Ori go then as he's talking with Shep Miri bio-throws him through the glass window behind him.

From what I hear, you just have to warn her about Kai Leng in one of those conversations in the Citadel.

You have to warn her in an earlier conversation that Kai Leng is back(I think at the Spectre terminal, but I'm not certain), then talk down her father to release Oriana(using a Paragon/Renegade persuade option).

You have to warn her; that's the main thing. You don't have to romance her.

You have to warn her about Kai Leng along with talking down her father. If you don't do either of those things, then she will die from her wounds.

Maybe it's romance and/or Kai Lang warning then... or another bug...

When does she die? She made it through Sanctuary, on my run, and Liara later had a message saying she had gathered some fighters and was blowing up Cerberus bases. That was the last time I saw her, but I never romanced Miranda. I got her loyalty, and I had her speak with Oriana when she had a chance, and I stopped her from killing Niket. And she led a team, I think, on the Collector base. But I never romanced her.

I did everything but she died because I broke up with her. Watch out for that.

I think it's about whether you gave her the Alliance intel.
