Mass Effect 2 is by far the best game of the series does anyone else agree?

Probably because my expectations were low, but I kept being impressed by that game ... all the way to the very end.
That suicide mission is still incredibly impressive ... great drama (love the biotic hike to the final door), everyone plays a part and there's a ton of suspense (until you actually understand the formula of having everyone survive).
I freakin' love it.

ME 2 is graphically and cinematicaly the strongest one in the series but I don't put that much stock in graphics.

But that ending has, no question, ruined my ability to replay it. I'm trying, but I can barely muster up enough motivation to do Thessia and Sanctuary because I know the defeat I have to suffer on Thessia isn't entirely made up for by what comes after.

One thing that ME2 had going for it was the suicide mission. For me, that mission was unmatched by any other mission. Making the decisions about who goes where, who does what was fun stuff; the funnest mission of any mission in the Mass Effect series. I was expecting more suicide missions-esque decisions in ME3, but was sorely mistaken.

It had the best squad roster, and the mechanics felt better, but the skill system was TOO simplified, and the story mostly felt unneccessary.
I think I'd put ME3 as the best, even with the terrible ending.
It kept the superior gameplay of 2, and expanded on the skill system, blending 1 and 2 so it was simple, but not too simple.
Plus, it was just a more emotional game than 1 and 2. They just don't have anything on hanging with Garrus on the Citadel, or seeing Mordin and Thane go out like champs, or sharing a heartfelt farewell with all of your friends before you go on a mission you're not sure you're coming back from.
I mean, yeah, ME3's ending was terrible, and it's a blight on the trilogy, but the game itself is the strongest of the 3, imo.

Fix ME 3's import issues and do something about the ending (though I think people are being melodramatic about the ending) and it is definitly the best. ME 2 makes a very good case for itself especialy when you throw in it's strong DLC support but in ME 2 you are still fighting terminous system mercs in most of the game while in ME 3 you are fighting the reaper army and an indocrtinated cerberus army made up of freak soldiers so ME 3 is more compelling but ME 2 is damn fun.

From someone who does "put that much stock in graphics" I can tell you that ME3 has much better visuals than ME2 did. Cinematicaly stronger too other than the slo-mo parts in the fight for London.

Honestly the Thessia section is one of my favorite parts of the game. I mean yeah it is depressing and all that but that is when the whole galactic apocolypse aspect really hits home. We are seeing the most advanced civilization in citadel space being torn apart by the reapers, it really made what was going on hit home especialy with Liara's reaction afterwards. That is the only time in all 3 games where we see her in despair and let's remember she has been through alot of crap.

Like I said it is not a big deal to me either way, the graphics in all 3 games were good enough to satisfy me and that is all that matters even ME 1's were fine with me.

ME2 improved on what ME1 didn't do well but at a cost
ME3 improved on ME2 and had me enjoying the game the further it went along.

yeah Thessia was very upsetting as was the fact that we don't really know what happened after the Mass relays were destroyed. Maybe This is the makings of Mass Effect 4? This does leave a little bit of leeway for another game. Shepard is dead and now you play as Liara. I can only assume that the ME 2 squad died on earth though.GuardianAngel470 wrote...

ME1 best of the three
ME3 very good, wait to see what the DLC (and cost) do for overall feel
ME2 good game, but lacked a story arc and "feel" in the overall set (like many in a trilagy)

thats kind of where I am at except that I only played ME 1 2 or 3 times maybe. I played ME 2 like 8 and I don't see myself finishing my imports to give each shepards story's an ending. What's the point they all die anyway.CrasVox wrote...
I still think ME2 is the best game of all time.
ME1 was great. I enjoyed it very much. Played it through many times. But when ME2 came out, and I was playing it, it knocked me away. It was amazing. Fantastic. Great characters, great locations, great story. And great replay value.
ME3....had some great moments, but on the whole, does not match up with ME2.

I don't think Shepard dying is what has most people riled up. I think it is losing the relay network and lack of epilogue that bugs most people.
