Mass Effect 2 is by far the best game of the series does anyone else agree?

It was a good game, don't get me wrong, but every time I do a full playthrough, ME1 is the one which I always try to blitz through.

I missed the long story missions of ME1. And while the shooting aspect was significantly better they left everything else behind.

I prefer me2 over me1 but i could understand people liking the first one better. The inventory system in the first one is way too cumbersome for my taste. It's just a matter of preference. Saying someone isn't a fan of mass effect because they prefer one over the other is ridiculous. Each game has its attributes and each one has its flaws. However, the endings to both 1 and 2 were epic in my opinion.I came in very handy during last week's operation.

I didn't like Mass Effect 2. The story didn't suck me in like it did with 1. And it was too character driven. It was like 3% story and 97% about the way too many squadmates you had. The lack of bringing up Cerberus' actions in 1 didn't help. Yeah, you can ask Miranda but its not satisfying and you never get to bring it up to TIM. Heck, the lack of Cerberus being evil at all was hardly present. You get a ship full of morons who are all "I joined Cerberus because they are saving humanity" yeah, good reason, did you forget about all the other things they did?
If you ignore all the little exploration planets and side quests in ME1 you actually don't run into Cerberus at all during ME1 meaning your Shepard might not know anything about them come ME2.

If you do Helena Blake's missions in ME 1 you get to see Cerberus doing experiments. At least it seems that way they are playing with husks and its really just one pop up at the end of the first 2 missons that bring them up they really are hard to missAsch Lavigne wrote...

Yes, but the point of doing them and importing it is that you do know, and that it shoukd be brought up. Heck, Vasir brings it up in LotSB but you never get the chance to. That just really bugged me. I didn't have a "Sole Survivor" Shep but as far as I know that also gets left behind until the ME3 Lazarus vids.

Miranda brings it up a few times in ME 2. Hackett brings it up during the Cerberus base attack in ME 3 and I believe it gets brought up once or twice in ME 1 as well.Asch Lavigne wrote...

1 had the strongest and most interesting story, with good characters, but the side missions were so-so, a bit repetative, and mechanics were clunky at times.
2 Improved on the missing elements from 1, but traded them for a weaker story. Equally good characters though.
3 had it all, though I think they missed an opportunity to have all the characters together, but botched it with that damn ending.

True. that's what I do too. Blitz through ME1. ME2 is where the real fun begins. Although in hindsight it feels like a glorified spinoff, and it has a weak story and the first documented use of space (or biology) magic, ME2 remains my favourite of the series.

To me, the best game of the trilogy is ME1.
But let me say this, ME2 is light-years ahead of ME3.

I liked ME1 the most with ME2 a close second. You can't beat the atmosphere of number 1.

I agree, but more by virtue of ME3 being colossally terrible as opposed to ME2 actually approaching ME1.

Yes I said it and here is why.
In spite of my distaste for the endings. (mainly the original) It was the best combination of customization and shooter. Though I have other small issues with things outside of the ending. (Cough cough, cost cutting in conversations with NPC's)
ME1 was more like Knights of The Old Republic with real time shooter controls. It had the most exploration, and areas to visit. The game was also much closer to an open world, and had so many side missions I only finished them all after my third playthrough. So to me it's my second favorite, and it constantly fights for the top spot, only losing out to the third game after a year's thought.
ME2 although great, was too different from the first game for me. And you know what they say about first impressions. Well I think the initial shock of the changes soured me on it a bit.
Later I came to appreciate the mechanical improvements to the game over ME1, and honestly I think the cut scenes are a significant step up, but it clearly weighed much higher on the shooter scale rather than RPG side. The lack of new weapons and armor took away some of my favorite things.. and let's not forget the Mako.. my sweet mountain climbing tank.

You have to take ME1 in slowly, explore the planets, read all the info; you're kind of missing the point if you blitz through it. It's the only game that actually presents a massive, mysterious setting to explore. If you're treating ME1 like ME2 then it's no wonder you like ME2 more.

It actually reminds me a lot of DAO in that it is the characters and fighting that good fight with them that just keeps that game magical like almost no other out there. ME3 had a lot of it, though the cameos were disappointing.... but that damn ending. Why the hell couldn't we have at least one actual and true victory like ME2 and 1 gave us... why is it all shades of "sell your soul and die!"? Ugh...

I did, the first couple of times I played it. Did all the sidequests everything, only leaving the collection-type quests. But didn't find it as fun as ME2. So I started to blitz through in my later playthroughs. Differnce of opinions.. :/

IMO that's the worst way to play a game. Why am I reading all of those codexes and doing random repeatitive side missions? To me the whole aura of ME 1 was kind of boring when compared to ME 2 or 3. Granted I did enjoy Virmire, the geth attack on the citadel, and a few other key moments one of the biggest reasons why I blitz through ME 1 is because of the damn Mako. I hate that thing. I personally feel that the combat mechanics in ME 2 is what makes it much better than ME 1 and the story in ME 2 is what makes it better than ME 3. Is it dumbed down? Hell yes but imo its still a great game. I played ME 2 more than any other game in the series when it comes to SP.Dark_Caduceus wrote...

If DAO had the game mechanics of DOA 2 I would play it over and over again. DAO might be the only game I can think of that feels worse than ME 1.Kabraxal wrote...
ME1 and 2 are very very close... so close it's hard to really pick but I think I'd give the edge to ME2 now. I still get excited over a new ME1 run and love the exploration and the story, but... there is just that extra something in 2. Every time that start screen fires up the chills return like it's the very first time playing and then just getting to meet the characters all over again... I love Ash and Wrex from 1, but damn... Miri, Jack, Grunt, Legion, Kasumi... hell, all of them, even Jacob, have a depth that just brings life to the game.
It actually reminds me a lot of DAO in that it is the characters and fighting that good fight with them that just keeps that game magical like almost no other out there.
