BioWare Listens To Thane Fans With Release of a DLC...Has Unexpected Outcome

Today in gaming news BioWare launched a DLC for disgruntled fans of Thane Krios. The Drell Assassin introduced in Mass Effect 2 was designed for women but got ignored in Mass Effect 3 as a continued romance. Through tons of letters, petitions, a facebook page, and the heavy use of Twitter, Thanemancers as they are called, bombarded BioWare to fix this characters romance.
Seeing the potential for extra income, BioWare relented and fixed the romance for Mr. Krios. Although an anonymous source from BioWare stated, "It wasn't about the money. It was about getting peace and quiet. Women in general are very ferocious we knew we would never hear the end of it if this was not corrected." This journalist believes this employee is wise for staying anonymous.

BioWare decided to track the usage of this particular DLC and found something quite unexpected. While playing the DLC the character of Shepard was allowed to "save" Thane Krios and thus, continue the romance. Since we do not want to give spoilers, this is all we are going to say about the exact nature of the mission to save him. But what we will say is that there is a romantic scene aboard the Normandy and that is what has BioWare in a state of shock. Apparently through the tracking of it's Origin client and other means, at the precise point that Thane removes his shirt EVERY user went silent. We have been unable to reach individual users to see what has occurred. The same anonymous employee simply stated, "if this was all it was going to take to silence them, we could have saved a lot of money."

We will update this story as we get more news.

Hahaha brilliant! This and your recent Shep/Thane dialogue involving Joker should definitely be sent to bioware! I bet they would actually lol at this, and may even get some ideas ;)

The flow chart is awesome, nice work Shara :) I really think people are starting to notice us, seeing as they make threads about our thread haha even if they don't agree with us. At least we are getting attention right? ;)

Yes, attention is good! Thane needs attention.

People who make threads about us and complain are only helping us eventhough their complaints are annoying. One of the main reasons that they even complain, is because they are afraid that we will get BioWare to listen to us and because of it they might not change or fix what they want fixed. They feel threatened. But everyone has a right to complain about whatever they want and hope to be listened. Not just on things that you agree on.

I agree!  There is no such thing as bad publicity (ok maybe but still...) and the more Thane threads there are, the more we get heard!

psh, i hope they do come out with a dlc that changes the outcome. it will only prove them wrong. oh if there is a God, i love nothing more to shove it to those who been craming "THANE SHOULD DIE" down my throat.

I too wish that Thane would return to us. I miss our Drell.

Oh me too, this can't be it. I need more of that sexy drell.:wub:lol.

I agree that the 'bad publicity' we've been getting is actually due to those people feeling threatened, it makes sense. Hopefully bioware can see through their protesting that 'Thane should die' and see that they are just trying to push forward their own concerns about the endings and what not. There might be some people who genuinely think Thane's death was good, but they are usually people who didn't romance him and are open to the fact that Thane deserved a better romance.

Sorry I haven't been around much the last few days, but I kind of had other important things to do... Like graduating college. Which apparently I am now going to do since I finished the final exams for seniors. The only thing that could make me happier would be if I had a nice sexy Drell here to help me celebrate properly... Mmmmmm...

I'm actually very pleased with the outcome of the last debate on the PAX thread and how we actually got someone to listen to us. Or rather, Moira did. GO MOIRA!! WOOOO!! Sweet Drell poems to you!

I feel like we have something of a small victory on our hands now. No one else has posted to argue with us, and I feel like maybe we've gotten through to people. Maybe I shouldn't, but I'm starting to feel positive about the outcome of our protests.

Haha yeah, good team effort on the ME2 facebook page, and Moira's comment must have hit home for him lol. I'm excited to see if they mention anything about ME2 characters and possible DLC at PAX, but I guess they will probably end up focusing mostly on the endings. Either way, we're going to find out soon :D

It seem that no matter what we do, Thane follows us around in one way or another. I was reading book #13 in the Wheel of Time series today and a character mentions someone named "Thane". This Thane had never been mentioned before so it took me by surprise. I try to escape the world of Mass Effect and my sadness about Thane and then BAM, I'm reminded somehow again :pinched:

"Thane" believe it or not is a title used long ago when a man was granted land by the King.  So a lot of historical stuff and fictions I read mention it...  Won't be reading those for a while :crying:

It's Nordic in origin. And I'm playing Skyrim. You can only IMAGINE what I'm going through right now whenever I walk into a house that I own and my housecarl says "Greetings, my Thane!" I kinda want to smash something.

I just read it and guess what? I am disturbed by the following, "BioWare, a Label of Electronic Arts Inc. announced Mass Effect™ 3: Extended Cut, a downloadable content pack that will expand upon the events at the end of the critically acclaimed Action RPG. Through additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes, the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut will give fans seeking further clarity to the ending of Mass Effect 3 deeper insights into how their personal journey concludes."

Yes, that's exactly what I wanted...additional cinematic sequences added to that already wonderful ending. Ugh.... Well since they said, "“Since launch, we have had time to listen to the feedback from our most passionate fans and we are responding." I am hoping that they do indeed listen and if not, well it's time to get louder for Thane.

Sounds like they are doing the minimum possible to appease angry fans. If this had been in the original game it would have been fine I think.
But at this point, a lot of people are feeling, "Too Little, Too Late."

Today is the last day for submitting LI Letters to PAX! Deadline is Thursday, 9PM (EST!)

Here's a sneak peak of how the book of letters is coming together. Still a work in progress, still receiving letters, still need more fanart for it:
context=C460d2ceADvjVQa1PpcFMxQonNXUUjX1OX0i-PJiPzVVHNIxcxZtY=

Last chance to express yourself about how the romances went in ME3! To submit a letter, PM me or post here: http://social.biowar...ndex/10853184/4

Passionate, but polite! Write about what you liked about their appearance in ME3, what you didn't like. Were your expectations met regarding how you last saw your LI in ME2? How well do you think your particular LI(s) was/were portrayed in ME3? Were you disappointed about something related to the character?

If you've already submitted a letter (or if you want to but can't for whatever reason) this project still needs help! We're hoping to receive some fanart to put in with these letters. To make the book look pretty, and also to break the unrelenting flow of letters- we have gotten a lot! Fan-art doesn't have to be anything new, but if you have some fan-art or know someone who has some and wouldn't mind showcasing it, please post or PM me a link to it.

If it is not your work please get permission from the artist. Nothing explicit, please. Time is of the essence, we don't have much of it left!

I love the look of the letter book Visii :D I don't have any art other than the memorial (which they have) so it would probably not be worth it but you are welcome to use it if you need it.

Thane's Reaction to the Latest BW News

Thane:  :crying:
Shep:  Oh no, what now?
Thane:  Have you seen this?  I can't believe it.
Shep:  How many times have I told you to stay off the Extranet?
Thane:  I just needed to know, it is our ending.
Shep:  How bad can it be?
Thane:  http://blog.bioware....3-extended-cut/
Shep:  Well, I see the problem.  Clarification on that Genocidal Child's logic.
Thane:  I am still dead.
Shep:  Then my love, you are the lucky one.
Thane:  I cannot bear to know that you must suffer this.
Shep:  Well we can hope they fix the glaring issues with our romance.
Thane:  Yes, that would be wonderful.
Shep:  Oh sarcasm?
Thane:  Where is our desert?
Shep:  Lots of speculations from everyone :wizard:
Thane:  I guess so but I am still disquieted.
Shep:  All we can hope is that they fix us, don't give up yet.
Thane: Yes, exactly what we should look forward too.  At least Siha, we would be walking into that sh*t ending together.
Shep:  We can debate our color choices :?
Thane:  Hopefully I won't have to watch you think of Liara this time.
Shep:  No matter what they put up, I will be thinking of you.
Thane:  Some solace even in the darkest of times.
Shep:   zipper, thighs, lips.....

Love the convo utaker - the "announcement" is I'm sure not what everyone wanted.  They are just going to "clarify" with cinematic scenes and an epilogue?   It will probably just make people rage harder.

And I'm not giving up on the drell yet - they will want to have lots of DLC for ME3 to keep it going, so I'm hopeful that our request is an easier fix, and perhaps something they would actually enjoy doing!
