I swear, not ONCE have I come into this thread when there has NOT been a conversation about Thane in some sort of sexual innuendo. Not that I mind.
But it makes me sad because it reminds me of just how unglamerous BioWare treated him and the fact that all they do when they talk about him is say "Oops. Oh, well."

It sad that we have to do it because bioware gave us nothing.
I wanted a nice romance and a great love scene like everyone else got. What we got was crap.
They can't even give a decent excuse for whey they did what they did. I look at the other romances and wonder why they couldn't do the same for Thane.

I just want to say this is my first time posting in this thread. And the reason it's taken me so long is that I romanced Kaidan in my play through and I worried that people would see my sig and think I'm trying to incite or hate but I swear I'm not!![]()
I didn't cheat on Kaidan with Thane, or leave him to be with Thane, because I made another femshep to do just that. There's something sexy about Thane, and I hate to say this but he is just so much more bada** than Kaidan. Graceful and lethalsorry, I digress. Until now I've never posted support for this ME2 LI oversight (that's putting it kindly) and decided I probably should, agreeing in my mind is not something Bioware would know
I was really hoping to make a different shep for each romance just for fun. But apparently not gonna happen
I think if they had made all the ME2 LI possible squadmates in ME3, if romanced in ME2, then I think a sitaution like this, and all the problems with the other LI would have not been an issue. They would have been on the Normandy. There would be no way to not write dialog or interactions or alone time or something! I do like the idea that there should have been emails since they couldn't be on the Normandy. Really that was just a silly (again trying to be nice) oversite, it would have taken a few days to write one sided emails form the LI for all the LI that couldn't be crew. It wouldn't have been great but it would have been something. They could have told you they're thoughts on the email you sent them about a quest you just finished or something, or just professions of love and missing you.
Anywho, I'm writing in the Thane thread because just what has been said, Thane's options are completely taken out of your control. You don't get the option to do anything except watch. Which is horrible because they didn't just say he was going to die, in ME2 they give you hope that the hanar cure will work, or the alien medigel, or any number of other things that are referenced, to the extent I was expecting to be able to save him if he was my LI minimum, and honestly even I didn't. I was expecting to not be able to save him if I played as renegade or if I botched his loyalty mission in ME2.
It was a beautifully written death scene for my Kaidan femshep. I am not going to play with my Thane femshep. Do not want to go through that, even though I guess I kind of did by watching youtube and such, but going the whole rest of the game knowing he's dead, and there wasn't a thing my femshep was able to do for him, no thanks.
Now, I know that all the other ME2 LI had their choices taken out of their hands too, Jacob anyone? I think the big difference to remember is you can 'interpret' that you and your LI will eventually be together, not satisfying in anyway because it's not in game, but it can be done. With Thane you can't, he's dead, period, end of story. With this new extended ending DLC there's not even a small hope that he will be in there, but there is hope for other ME2 LI. Even if they come out with pre-ending DLC, like that rumored retake Omega. If they add more interaction, he's still going to die. That's... just... depressing and sad. it would be something to give you more interaction, but, at least for me, I would always be thinking his death is right around the corner
Anyway, sorry for the wall of text. Quick question, does anyone have any ideas on how to bring Thane back, or get him more game time?
I started trying to figure out, from BW perspective, how they could pull Thane's
asininecharacter arc out of the proverbial fire. I had to imagine it from their angle, since, it's them that would have to do this, and not me (obviously). I'll put everything in lists, since it will be easier to read (if ya even want to read through me ramblings) Here it goes:
1) Even though I love the idea (very much so) of LI DLC, I fear that exclusive LI DLC probably won't happen. However, I DO see them adding more LI content to story DLC, to appeal to the likes of us crazy RPGers.
2) For Thanemancer though, (as he would say...) this is problematic. They wrote a character arc for him that currently has him die no matter what, AND is in obvious physical distress through the small portion of the game, he is in. So, again, from the perspective of BW writers, and the unlikely chance of Thane exclusive DLC, a question must be answered: How do we believable (within the current written format) give people a chance to have his fate altered, so he could be utilized in future story DLC??
I believe I came up with a workable idea.
a) Develop a patch that adds one more dialogue set to Thane's character (and a small one to his Doctor). This extra dialogue would only trigger after all other previous in game dialogue is exhausted (but before Citadel Coup).
c) This dialogue would have a standar wheel with two right side options (paragon/renegade), and two left side options. The Bottom Left option would simple close off the convo, allowing you to simply move on from the dialogue. (for those that want a different fate for him.....i.e. same fate as you get in the vanilla game....yuck)
d) The Top Left option, would open a quick Investigative dialogue, in which we would learn that his Doctor mentioned something about new treatments to help his people. Perhaps it is the lung medi-gel treatment, but he doesn't believe it will be available to him.
e) A choice to end the convo with a paragon or renegade response.....neither will effect (beyond tone/personality) the information you have gleened from Thane.
f) This will lead you to talk to the Doctor one last time before the coup. Following a few lines to indicate, that you hope she will find a way to get the treatment to Thane.
g) The new material that the patch provided would effectively be done, because the game would then use existing markers already provided in the vanilla game. Basically, if you followed the life extention route with this new material, Thane would NOT end up in the KL fight. The vanilla game would register this the same as if you never went to speak with him in the first place. The sacrifice for this would be what you would expect; if Kirahee is alive in your PT, then he is the one to die. If not, then the Salarian Councilor dies.
3) With the patch, this would effectively make Thane available for any further DLC they may wish to do. INCLUDING any LI content that was also incorporated in to said DLC. This would also allow for the romance to continue as it should have been in the first place for all Thanemancers, and we could also get the Paramour Achievement from this extra LI content. We could then shout to the damn world that THIS IS OUR MAN!! In others words, BACK OFF booberry and Kaidan. (too much caffeine)
4) A short thought on story DLC, which would make expanding on the ME2 LI's that took a back seat in this game easier, would be to bring back something more specific to ME2....example Omega (it already looks like a DLC is being potentially setup for there anyway),or Harbinger (he's kinda floating like a McGuffin in da wind), ect.......
This DLC could be setup to be played AFTER the Citadel Coup (that way all potential ME2 LI's could be utilized; including our beautiful Drell...). It would then have us taking mostly our old ME2 squad with us on said romp for this DLC.
Not sure how much this made sense.....feel free to comment/criticize/or ignore.....is all good, bebe! Basically, I was just trying to find a way for them to change his fate, but in a relatively NON invasive way, so others could leave the vanilla game as is. <bastarts>

As do I. Every time I read "lack of resources" as the excuse for things, I shake my head. I run a business with my husband, and I have to consider resources with every project. Sometimes that means I have to compromise, of course, but I will consider as many options (within a certain time constraint) as I can. Prioritizing becomes a fundamental part of a successful project. I really would have assumed that they (bw) would want to carry over and prioritize this game, in a similar manner as the first two games. It is logical, and helps maintain continuity. And they most certainly should have been reminding themselves constantly, that the characters they have created needed to continue to standout; loving attention, if you will.
Give us Thane back....

*snort* Lack of resources... Maybe they should have thought about that before working on that idiotic MP. And now animes? I don't want to watch an anime about Vega. If anything, I want more character interaction with him IN GAME. And I certainly don't want to watch Dragon Age anime. I saw the preview and thought it thoroughly sucked. Dragon Age 3? Sure, maybe after you do something with Dragon Age 2...
So complaining about a lack of resources is invalid IMneverHO.
BitterShep wants her Thane back.

Yep, there's a Vega anime and a Dragon Age anime. i've only seen the previews for DA and I hated every second of it. I can only imagine what Vega will turn out as. If it's anything like the Vega comic...count me waaaaayyyyy out.
