It was in the Romance Pack thread.

I don't think that guy actually has any idea what's happened in the first 15 pages of it....

It's always someone who didn't romance, or even talk to Thane that make these kinds of statments.

In agreement here.
The thing is the "cause" Thane sacrifices himself for is the Salarian Councilor, which in retrospect can be done by Kirrahee, which in my opinion is more fitting.
I mean a Salarian STG member sacrificing himself for his species councilor vs. a terminally ill drell assassin with no personal connection to the Salarians?

Considering the theme is uniting the galaxy, I think a Drell sacrificing himself to save the Salarian Councillor's life and the Salarians in turn joining the fight is more fitting...

Gah! Why is it so damn hard to read the entirety of one post x__x

I explained later on in my post (The one he quoted) why Thane had other personal goals than sacrificing himself for a Salarian Councilor...sigh...Image IPB

Thane's role in saving the Salarian councilor isn't even that important to the story, if Thane's not around Kirrahe will just take his place in saving the councilor. His part is just that replaceable. Thane shouldn't have been a throwaway character, which I felt like he was in ME3.

I do know when I got that incoming call from Thane going into the Citadel, I did shout, "No, you stay where you are! Do not do this!" I knew where it was going at that point. I agree that Kirrahe should have been the one, it makes more sense. Or how about no one at all? Make Shep save the Councilor. How about that? Even that makes sense because that is what she does. Thane getting there makes no sense at all, none.

Ok, so what should Thane be doing while the Citadel is under attack? Cowering under his covers? Under his bed? I'm going to assume Kolyat is on the Citadel. How about him going to make sure his son is safe? How about that? Does that not make more sense? Where in all the logic that is Thane does he figure his priority should be to save a salarian councilor and not go find his son? WTF!!!!

I only assume that Kolyat is on the Citadel because Thane is trying to mend his relationship with his son. Last I knew from ME2, Kolyat was on the Citadel. Besides, his father is living in the hospital, one could logically conclude he is still there since they are working on their relationship and all. And let's not forget he just gets to Thane's bedside a little too quickly to be anywhere else.

Ok, for those who want to say, "He was going to meet up with Shep."  Nice thought but I'm a parent.  I'm going to make sure my kids are safe first and besides, Shepard is NOT alone and she is armed.  Even he knows being by her side can wait until the safety of his son is assured.  One could also say, "Well he got in touch with Kolyat and knew he was safe."  I'm sorry, that is never going to be good enough for me.  My daughters telling me they are safe is not enough unless I see it for myself.  What if that area became under attack too?  Sorry, stay where I can see you.

/\\ This! I always thought it was strange that Thane was not more worried about Kolyat. Cerberus was shooting everything during that attack, any parent would be flipping out.

And while I can see Thane wishing to stop the assasination of the council it does make much more sense for Kirrahe to be the one sacrificing his life for the Salarian councilor. He's STG - certainly it's something he'd be up for and able to accomplish.

Hell, why wasn't some with the Councilor at the start? Dosen't anyone have bodyguards? And if Cerberus killed them then they were preety bad at their jobs. Kirrahe could be perfect....Hell, what about the Salarian Spectre looking for Kasumi? He could even step in.

What I can see happening is Shep and Co. coming across Thane protecting Kolyat and helping them get to safety, then Thane offering his help to protect the council, just like old times, yes? It also allows a little bit of Shep/Kolyat bonding for romanced Thane.

Well, this is just off the top of my head and probably has a few holes through it...But it's a sight better than what we got.

Sorry for intruding, but -- do we have a proof that Thane's fate was not decided as of ME2, i.e., an exact quote or, better, a link to a blog where this information was officially posted?

I believe it was Chris who shared this, but can't find a source.

I can't look for it right now, but there are various hints throughout the games that a cure is in the works. Bioware even ran a facebook promotion for a Cure for Thane. A banner was made and everything. Lotsb has a dossier for Thane he shares that he no longer accepts death and wants to live for his son and Shepard. He even tells Shepard he would like to see a desert one day.

I just remembered something.

In the leaked script the Citadel coup and the Save Kahje was the same mission.

When you got to the citadel, Kolyat contacts you and tells you the Citadel is under attack and that Udina is willing to sacrifice Kahje to the Reapers. With Kolyat and with Kasumi's help they open a "secret passage" leading to Udina. Kolyat reminds Shepard that Thane is in hospital. At some point Thane follows Shepard and attacks Udinas guards, this is where the "out of breath" thing happens.

What happened later I really can't remember, it's been quite a while since I read the leaked scripts...does anyone know where to find them nowadays?

I too, flipped out at the incoming call from Thane. I couldn't yell about it as to not spoil it for my husband/ roommates, but I was making a lot of crazy hand gestures and was about to flip my desk over. I read all the books except for Deception, (I did read the rage comic version though *facepalm*) so I knew Kai Leng was supposed to be really tough and I knew Thane wasn't in good health to be fighting, so I was instantly saying "ARE YOU F*CKING KIDDING ME?!" when Shepard just watched. I think Thane should have been with Kolyat- Shepard could have handled Kai Leng :(

Faith is just stuck pregnant, it's hard for me to go further with her, she's a paragon and I just cannot get into that line of thinking.  She's ashamed of herself right now.  She has some hang up about unwed mothers because of her super ultra religious beliefs.  Yeah, she's in the old ways of thinking.  Thane offered to marry her but she didn't want too because she felt he was just saying that to make her happy.  So she sits crying in her room when she thinks no one is listening.  Thane loves her but he just feels helpless.  I'm sure she'll stop crying eventually.

And Hope, well, she says she is.  But I don't know, I haven't decided if it's just some big troll on Javik for being such a jerk to Thane.  It probably will end up being a troll.  Not like Jav doesn't deserve it, he just trolled Kolyat.

@mnomaha, sorry to hear about your bird.  :crying:  **big hugs**

I'm so sorry to hear about all this, but at least she's not alone.  My manshep can sympathize with being unwed and pregnant.   So many tears.

I only read the storyboard script first, so the only thing I knew whas that Thane was in a hospital.

(Yeah I also knew about the endings, but I honestly thought that was going in the "to be changed" category)

At that point I stll had hopes for some kind of cure/transplant for Thane...sigh....I was so naive...

And then after I pleyed the game I found another script with some more details on the plot.
But dang I can't remember where I found it...
