Heh heh...ridges...and I like that pic above, I've drooled over it before and will continue to do so. Cameron was at it again (like how I blame her), this time she was peepin' at Thane from below. Yeah, he was standing on a glass floor in the waiting room. When he gave the Fenris stance I nearly died. And frakkin' forgot to hit the SS button, so that means I have to go back and do it again.

Fly cam + PC mods = awesome.
It's the only thing I miss when playing Mass Effect on the Xbox.
Although I can't stand the Keyboard mouse controls (Funny thing though, I didn't have a problem with it when playing Dragon Age)...
Meh being a console gamer for 19 years will do that to you I suppose.

Being able to turn Shepard into Thane is fun too! I have a gaming keyboard and mouse so I use them to map the controls to something that works for me :)

I couldn't stand the mouse control on Mass Effect....I suppose that happens when I'm bent on having a super fast gaming mouse so I can rapid fire fools in Mafia Wars...I had to change the mouse sensitivity in the ini file and then all was good. I just wasn't going to mess with the actual mouse settings because with the way I bounce from one thing to another I'd be sitting here all day playing with my mouse settings.

Do I prefer consoles, yes I do. Give me my Xbox and it's controller over a mouse and keyboard any day, plus I can lay in my bed. That makes it easier when I have a very dirty thought while playing, I don't have to worry about falling to the floor or sliding out of my seat. It also came in handy while playing ME3, I could just roll myself into a fetal position, bury my face in my pillow, and bang my fists on a soft surface.

But there are some instances when a choice is not possible....Darn you Diablo!!!! And while I prefer the console almost always, Dragon Age is the one game where I don't miss the console at all. The mods are a perverse person's dream!!!! And not only perverse mods either, I love the slap Morrigan one (heh heh) and I really do love Morrigan she's my Warden's BFF, and the Quests and Legends, I love that. That is where my Warden can finally troll Duncan for forcing her into this mess and going to Antiva and rubbing Zevran under the Crows noses.

Ohh yes swapping models that's awesome too...not to mention HD texture packs.  And the ability to take screenshots (I steal borrow my brothers PC version when I need references on my Shepards)
Aw shucks, now I'm partially regretting that my computer rig was made of suck back when ME1 was released.
Well maybe with my newly built rig (Built it myself. Wee!)... It needs to be put through it's paces anyway.Image IPB

My gaming mouse automatically switches profiles depending on what has focus :D So if I'm playing Mass Effect, the LED turns green and it uses those controls. If I alt-Tab out or just doing regular stuff, the LED turns blue and uses those controls :) I think I can have like 12 profiles

There are so many advantages to PC gaming, mainly all the cool mods. Sadly, I'm hopeless at the mouse and keyboard style of gameplay. I just couldn't get the hang of it.

I'm much more comfortable playing with a controller in my hand.

She has a beautiful voice. She did a great job and I liked the glimpses of Thane she used from the Blur trailer. <3

Except the Mass Effect games >_<

I did hear a rumour that it *is* possible to map the keys to an USB controller, through some kind of third party keyboard mappers. But don't quote me on that...

QaL is a mod made for DA:O and I found it over on Dragon Age Nexus.  Anyone who plays it should know that the approval system is used and unless you want to start losing some serious points with Zevran it would be a good idea to either leave him behind on most of it or be prepared to pick the most diskish responses possible.  I do mean the harsh ones, you have to be outright mean to everyone while he's with you..well, except the the thieves and the thief guild.  But Zev is easy, keep dragging him to the tent and the points will come back.

Hah, I was actually going to comment on this thread about Thane but you beat me to it. :)

Still so mad about the whole thing. I need to turn on my early save files in ME3 just to sit with him in the hospital.

Saw the "sexism in me3 romance" thread (or wuteva it's called), and it added fuel to the already burning fire, in my brain.  Since the game came out, and Thane's "participation" was revealed <bleh...belch>, I have been thinking on what many of you have brought up in regards to Thane's initial design in ME2.  The fact that they built him with female gamers specifically in mind.  So, after sooooo many posts stating, "...cha....ya knew he was dyin'...!", or "He had a wife already.....meh..." (totally extrapolating the "valley girl" attitude....heh!), I am calling (again) 'foul' on bw.

If he was truly made for female gamers, then why did he need this many "handicaps"?  Widower, estranged son, lost childhood from 'compact', AND Kepral's....yada, blah, meh....Do they believe that woman need men to "fix"? (as @utaker had mentioned previously)  Who the hell were they interviewing/talking to when they decided to come up with a bag o' ***tastic problems for this man??  Everything else (introduction to the Drell species, connection with the Hanar, his spiritualism, being an assassin, AND including the lost family) was more than enough to make us interested.....didn't need to add a terminal illness and a "potential" death wish (referring to unloyal Thane, and me3 Thane; romanced or not).  Wut; can woman NOT like romances UNLESS they are angsty????  Garrus is proof enough that THAT is not true.

Many of the people who claim NOT to wish to romance Thane, have said specifically, that it is BECAUSE he has a terminal illness.  So, they choose Garrus (in some cases, if they decided not to choose/stay with Kaidan....if playing a hetro-Shep, of course).  Not a thing wrong with choosing Jimminy.....I love that guy; seriously!  This then leads to questions for people like us that still CHOOSE to romance Thane.  Why, knowing he has a terminal illness, do you still romance him?  I think most of us would give the same reasons/examples as to why we do....i.e. mature, doesn't 'worship' at the house o' Shepard, quirky sense of humor, truly "feels/loves" Shepard, takes romance seriously (at least in ME2...bah!) Here in lies the issue with the writers in regards to the character Thane.  If he was designed for females, and many females DON"T want overly dramatized relationships (in there LI's for RPG's), then why go out of your way to make such a compelling (and 'purdy') and unique character SPECIFICALLY for female gamers, then give him a terminal illness.....later to be "killed" (no matter what) in the final installment!?!?!?!  Seems like a MASSIVE waste of resources back in ME2!!  Problem, now....ya gots a bunch of PO'ed women lookin' for satisfaction!!!

I personally analyzed some of this, back when I first played the game.  I admit to being drawn to Thane immediately (so bw got some things right...hubba, hubba!).  But, I was taken aback by the "....I'm dying" bit.  Not because I saw him as less worthy...no,no,no.....but because I know ME! (ummm that is ME not M.E.Image IPB....and no, I don't mean Medical Examiners...pppppbbbbttttsss!)  I know being the emotional sad sack I can sometimes be, that should he die....I wouldn't take that wellImage IPB.  However, I started to think....."nah....this is BW, and an RPG, and choices, and LI (never force LI death...ever!!!).  So I had really convinced myself, they would never simply kill the guy (silly drunken sod!).  Why do that?  Especially when I started seeing in game possibilities.  Hell, Mordin alone should have been a possible 'cure Thane' asset.  He cured the plague on Omega in a few weeks.  Also made it so we could walk through the "swarms" on Horizon.  And of course, in me3, he can cure the genophage!!  He's SUPER SALLY!! (damn, they really need a super hero emoticon).  And, of course, all the other in game hints (Hanar working on cure/adaptation, lung transplant, lung medi-gel.....)  Ya gets da point!

Final summation....ugh.  Brain not functioning well after long, drawn out rant......BUT, after really considering all of this, I cannot fathom how they believed that this was a "good way to go" for such a character.  To those that don't romance/friend him (and BTW, when I say friend, I mean more than just succeeding at his LM; the Drell has some poignant thoughts even with an unromanced Shep-male or female, and should be considered when examing his place in the third game...hmmmph) they see his place in me3, as "good enough".  But, the truth is.....a "roman caesar's thumbs down"!

they messed up.......Image IPB

Agreed.

Warnig! Large rant with depressing RL stuff attached to it inbound.

I'll add that during the final romance scene in ME2 something that has never happened to me in my (then) 17 years of gaming.

When he says that he is ashamed and afraid of his death I almost lost it.
He finally came to realise that he had a reason to live.

----------------------
Related-RL rant
-----------------------

That moment hit home for me.

My mom had a stroke ten years ago.
She was literally minutes from death by the time the paramedics got to her.
When she told me of how she managed to survive this is what she said:

"As everything faded around me the only thing I saw was you and your brother alone, and the only thing I could think of was that I can't leave you. Not now. I can't. I need to come back. "

And she did. But not without scars. She has permanent handicaps from her stroke.
And for a long time she kept identifiyng with those handicaps.

She'd say "I can't do X anymore, I can't handle this task by myself. You, (me and my brother) must think I'm a useless mom. Everyone I meet on the street avoids me. "

And I was angry and frustrated that there was nothing I could do help her. There was nothing I could do or say to make her feel better.I felt so damn helpless at that time.

It took her years to realise that :

"No. I am not my handicap. I am still me. Nothing can take that away from me. I'm worth more than this label I've given myself"

I don't have any words to describe how happy I am that she came to that realisation.
---

Back to "my feels" moment in ME2:

When I saw that scene in the game, all of that my mother went through came back to me. And my memories of how I couldn't help.

And that was the moment I said to myself: Never. You will not die. Not under my watch you won't. I couldn't make a difference in RL but this is a game. I'll make damn sure I save you.

----

So for any ignorant idiots out there who claim that "Lol he was dying. His sacrifice was sooo full of meaning. U shud have no choice. It be realistic Y u mad?"

I only think of this: Willpower alone can make all the difference in a life and death moment. I saw it with my own eyes. And I dare anyone to say that I'm wrong in that statement.

------

Damnit my keyboard is getting soaked now. Am I too emotional about this?
Maybe, but I honestly don't give a damn if other people think so.
Dang, I need to cuddle a cat now so I can be all happy again...or remind myself of how awesome Thane is...Image IPB

@Emeraldfern *hugs*  I strongly believe that willpower is incredibly important and am glad that your mom got past defining herself by her disability.
I find it offensive that BW thought it was acceptable to force Thane back into such a negative role in ME3 devoid of hope with no possibility of being saved.

@coldwetnose I completely shared your logic regarding what I expected BW to do with Thane in ME3, even now I cannot make any sense of what they did.  I guess that some peoples outlooks are so far from my own that I can't comprehend them (...they sound like reapers).

I was shocked to read a comment from a BW staff member (he was not a writer ...thank ****) in a DA2 forum that stated he thought it was great that having Jacob cheat on shepard seemed to have generated feelings amongst fans that were similar to if they had been cheated on in RL ... which I think is pretty ****ed up.  It scares me that someone could even consider that causing that kind of emotion would be a good thing.

I have to confess that what they did to Thane gave me feelings similar to those I feel when things are going badly wrong in a relationship.  This was not over Thane per se but rather how BW (through the treatment of Thane and Jacob) had treated their female fans...  It was not a good thing.  Not for me, and not for EA/Bioware because as a consequence I will not purchase any of their games unless I reaaally have to.  If DA3 is released I will rent it day one, maybe buy the day one DLC and if I like it, wait until it drops in price for PC purchase.  Giving BW £10 rather than £70 on day one.  That's not good business.
