When Thane fights KL, and throws him across the room with biotics.
Throw doesn't work on shields or armor, so KL had to have been stripped down already (ew). So an even worse reason for Shepard+Co to not open fire on him, and for Thane to charge at him,

That's a good point, Thane's appearance in ME3 really doesn't stand up to much scrutiny at all... such a shame that they were so sloppy.

Yeah, I don't understand it. Shepard and your 2 squad mates should have fired on Kai Leng and killed him right then and there. That way Thane would have survided, Miranda wouldn't have almost died, and the Reapers would never have found out that the humans knew that the citadel was the catalyst in the first place! There should really be a Paragon option to open fire on Kai Leng. I think that it should be a Paragon option and not a Renegade one, because by firing on Kai Leng you are saving Thane's life. That sounds like a good Paragon action if you ask me...RShara wrote...

Then a renegade option to just open fire.

When speaking to Tali on the Presidium, she says it's been three years to the day since she was shot on the Citadel.
Here's the problem. Shepard was dead for a little more than two years. I think about a year and a month. Jacob says the exact amount in the beginning of ME 2. A month passed between the Battle of the Citadel and the attack on the Normandy, and another six months between ME 2 and ME 3.
That leaves only four months for the events of Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and most of Mass Effect 3. That's cutting things too close. I would have guessed the events of ME 1 and 2 took about six months each, with two or three months passing in ME 3. Fourteen months. A big jump from four.
I asked this before, and the most common response was that the events of ME 1 only took a week. No way in hell, for several reasons. First of all, Shepard, Garrus, and Liara speak about the 'old days' and 'old times' in ME 2. That kind of nostalgia simply doesn't form in a week. Neither do the kind of relationships the teammembers have with each other. It's clear they care about each other deeply, and that doesn't happen to strangers in a week.
Secondly, Shepard must have trained Liara from the ground up during that time. I doubt Liara held a gun in her life before she met Shepard. And that takes time.
Here's what I think. ME 1 begins in January of 2183 and lasts until around May or so. Two years pass, and ME 2 begins in July or early August of 2185 and lasts until December. This makes sense, because there's an advertisment on the Citadel in ME 2 that promotes an auction on the 30th of August, I think. Six more months pass, and ME 3 begins in June or so of 2186.
One more thing - Rannoch years are shorter than Earth years, not longer, so it can't be just a translater error.
So if it's 3 yrs to the day, 1 month between ME1 and ME2, and Shepard spend 2 yrs 1 month dead, and it's 6 months since the end of ME 2, then ME2 had a *maximum* time of 4 months, not including any time in ME1.
So Thane says he had 3 months to live 9 months ago. So he had 3 months to live before he got on to the Normandy?
And people with terminal illnesses are not mobile and functioning up until the day they drop dead...lol
Gotta love Bioware's continuity.

That was why I did the timeline analysis, Shara. It was based in part on that line in-game, that Tali says to Shepard. I'll see if I can grab it real quick.....brb
**EDIT**
Okay, I found the analysis, and yes....some of it is "best" guess stuff, but most of it, is using references "in game". (Hope this is the right one...HA!)
Okay, timeline stuff! People have a tendency to bring up the time-line that Thane mentions in the Hospital; "my favorite doctor gave me three months to live....nine months ago." (not an exact quote, but pretty close. But this is a mess up of previous established time-lines that BW themselves originally created. So, I am going to set up the time line based on the conversation Shepard has with Tali on the Citadel (if any of you know the exact quote I would forever give you chocolate covered ridges...um cookies. yeah, that's it...) where she states that it has been exactly three years since Shepard met her in the back alley of the wards on the Citadel. So working with that in-game timeline, here is a "reasonable" scenario to consider:
1) We have 3years from getting Tali in ME1 to the conversation with Tali on the Citadel in me3
2) We can immediately subtract from that timeline the following:
a) 2 years for dead/rebuilding Shepard6 months house arrest between ME2 and me3
c) 1 month (roughly; my general assumption) from the time you start ME2 to getting Thane (assuming your not using a game editor to "get Thane early"....and for this exercise we will stick with base game setup).
3) When we first recruit Thane he says he will be fine for the next 8 -12 months (fine means active in my opinion, and after that he is too weak to fight. NOT that he will be DEAD in 8-12 months....the fact that he says "fine" and not "dead" is key.)
4) So far we have the following: 3 (years)
- 2 (years)
- 6 months
- 1 month
---------------
5 months
5) I have seen others post this before, that it is believed that ME1 took place over only a couple of months, while ME2 was longer. I admit I am not working on anything official, so if anyone has any in-game hints referring to length of time for ME1, please let me know. For now, I will use previous posters comments on this, till I can get a better verification. Based on everything we know in the two games, I would follow this is probably correct; roughly 2 months for ME1 (at least AFTER Eden Prime), and the 4 months for ME2. (don't forget, that even though the current total is at 5 months, I had already subtracted one month for time BEFORE getting Thane, in ME2).
6) So, the general timeline would appear as such:
a) First visit to the Citadel in ME1 to the time of Shepards death, roughly 2 months.2 Years pass till Shepard is resurrected
c) 1 month pass until we get Thane
d) Thane says he will be fine for the next 8-12 months (we are currently at 2year and 3 months out of 3 years)
e) 3 months till the end of the SM
f) 6 months house arrest
g) 1 month till we finally get to speak to Thane at Huerta (this is again, my guess at how much time has passed since Shepard left Earth, went to Mars, Citadel, Palaven and back to the Citadel.
7) So, total number of months from the original "I should be fine for the next 8 -12 months" is: 10 Months
Yes, I do realize I am taking some liberty here, but working on the in-game info that Tali gives us in me3, and using other "known" timelines in game, this seems like a fair breakdown.
This clearly puts Thane still in the window of being "fine"....and anyone who has had sick family/friends or themselves knows that those terminal estimations are generally the average. Lasting a few months longer is not out of the realm of possibility (both Renmiri and myself have mentioned two such real life examples from our own personal experiences.) Because this is the timeline I would have expected them to follow (instead of making up the babble that comes out of Thane's mouth about "3 months to live, 6 months ago"), I would argue, that even without a cure/life extention, he shouldn't have been considered "waiting to die" to begin with. Further evidence that they gave him the heave-ho for character development.
I have more thoughts, but hunger is gnawing at me......must get food.

Actually, I believe it was a month or maybe a few weeks between ME1 and ME2, not 2 months. Might need to double check but I'm almost sure.
She was saying first visit to Citadel till Shepard's death, not Battle of the Citadel till Shepard's death.

No worries. I mentioned it to you when you posted (on the Thane Thread) the draft of your front page post for your "Thane Story Arc" thread. Sure it was easily missed, since the original analysis was posted on the Protest Thread, and not the thread where you posted your front page draft.....constantly forgetting where I posted things....bah.

A troll, obviously. Never claimed there weren't any at all to be fair.
Also, I wasn't trying to be patronising in saying "personal fantasies", I was referring to head canon in general whether that be two characters in a romance of two who are constantly beating each other up. Just clearing that up.

I really want to write a little essay of sorts to explain why an option to save Thane would not necessarily trivialize his character. I was trying to think of how I could help out with the protest even though I have very little time or money on my hands (I have just enough time to be a fairly vocal Tweeter). I'm good with words, so I figured I could at least try to get through to some people that way. Might have to wait until the weekend, though. I just started a new job this week!
