You know, here's what I'm wondering...

I made a post in the other Thane thread last night about how most players who don't want a cure for Thane are likely male, and haven't romanced him. 70% so far in the HTL poll.

So, here's my thought....

Chris Hepler didn't write Thane in ME2. Even if he played ME2 and was familiar with Thane's character from ME2, that doesn't mean that he romanced him. In fact, he probably didn't.

Now, if you are writing for a character in part 3 of a massively popular video game series, and you didn't write them in the first 2 installments, logic would tell you that you should get intimately familiar with everything relating to that character in games 1 and 2. If that character is an LI, that means both the friend path and the LI path; the paragon path and the renegade paths.

So the million dollar question is then: Was Hepler so poor on the research that he didn't ever play through ME2 to experience Thane's romance -- or better yet, have a female that he is well-acquainted with, play through it also to get the female perspective? AND, is BiowarEA so poor on the QA, that they actually didn't figure this out during Hepler's writing of Thane? "Gee, something seems to be missing here for the romancers...this doesn't seem right..."

I find both of the above hard to believe, as both require a pretty severe amount of ineptitude from many people, at multiple levels. If, however, this isn't the reason, the only other logical reason is that BiowarEA wanted to treat Thane in the manner that they did. "Forgot" is an easy and convenient scapegoat b/c it attempts to garner sympathy by insinuating that nothing malicious was done.

Remember how you used to tell your mom that you "forgot" your homework at school, when really, you just didn't want to do it?

Anyway, just some ramblings on my part....

I don't think any of us will buy the excuse they forgot. It's just a sad and pathetic excuse for their laziness.

The words that Devs forgot about Thane as an LI is just a lie..Why? Becouse if they really forgot about this romance why we have:
-so called  " intimate" scene in hospital
-stupid dialogs with Kaidan about " cheating"
-" Siha" word used in dialogs
-recycled from LotSB letter after Thane died.
For me they hadn't time and/or ideas what to do with Thane/Jacob romances and they just finished it in so pathetic and lazy ways...

I agree.  I don't really buy the "forgot",  I've always thought it was a spin for "didn't really care" or "ran out of time/money".

The little bit of romance content does feel completely tacked on, but "forgot" may not be the exact way to put it. I think they were looking for a device for Blah Lame, decided to throw Thane in for that, and once that was done, they just threw the other stuff together and pinned it on to the dialogue. As @lyssalu used to say, "They just don' currr!"

Maybe they had something big planned for Thane but they had to severly cut back for some reason (We know of Javik, Kasumi, Zaeed, and I think someone else getting cutback on a lot) and they had to really quickly write up something new for him.

I mean, the game was rushed and everything.

Not saying I apporve or whatever, but yeah...

Unfortunetly game wasn't " rushed" enough to not include IGN drone...
Anyway,  the most irritating me thing is, that Devs even aren't able to tell us the truth, why they screwed Thane (and others ME2 characters). The crap that they forgot, or that it will ruin certain character if he will survive, it's enough for me. They should have courage to tell us, > Yes we screwed becouse lack of time ( or something)". And eventually do something to fix issues. Instead we get nothing, Devs even didn't look into ours threads, and on the Twitter Chris bad joke  was..well like slap in the face?

If they can't tell us the truth about the endings and everything else they said in interviews that would happen, why would they start with Thane?

I know You are right. There's many promises Devs broken, not only about Mass Effect serie but also with Dragon Age. Im BioWare fan since Baldur's Gate..They had ( at last for me) great and good games, I loved to play and I still have fun with them ( Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Jade Empire). But in the last years, with every new BioWare game Im more dissapointment. Don't know if it's my fault, becouse maybe I  expect too much and I blind followed every BioWare title, or maybe it's theirs PR fault, becouse they lie very often..
Mass Effect 3 it's just critical point for me. I was very dissapointment by DA2, but I gave them chance with ME3. Unfortunetly we got unfinished game, with many plot holes, where ours choices from two others part really don't matter  ( i.e Rachni Queen), with weak ending of Trilogy..
Im focused on Thane here, becouse I very like his character ( and also others ME2 characters), but I see a lot of other weakness of ME3.

So Mike Gamble tweeted the above,  not directly Thane related but I found it kind of annoying.  Nice to see in black and white where their priorities lie.  I know a lot of you are having fun with multiplayer but I'm sure it can't make up for what they did to Thane.

... What about people like me Mike? Oh that's right we're not worth the bother anymore.

*goes to bed grumbling about the poor treatment of Thane Krios again*

I think they received a lot of hate and complaints from people so any positive comment is most welcomed. Would you like to do something for people who tell you how bad you are at what you're doing?

I wouldn't.

We can't say that we like what they did, that's our problem. And they prefer to do something for people who tell them how awesome they are. Maybe we should change tactics...

The problem is that while an option to cure thane would make the game playable for me, it is not the only problem I have with the game, far from it.  Also it is not as if us saying 'we liked this' would make them think, oh wait... these guys are nice lets do something for them and cure Thane.

I think most of us have been in contact with BioWare and set out our problems with the game and provided reasons to why we think what they did was detrimental to the game.  Aside from what Patrick Weekes said ages ago, we've had no acknowledgement from BW other than thinly veiled snark.  It seems quite obvious that they are willfully ignoring (possibly laughing) at us, so I seriously cannot bring myself to have any sympathy for any predicament they might be in.

If we assume that all the 'cure thane krios group' purchased ME3 then EA generated around $90,000 from that small fanbase, a drop in the ocean to them but it is a lot of money to take from fans and not deliver.  In reality I'm sure that there were 100s of 1000s of people who would have enjoyed a choice with Thane and Jacob who had their enjoyment marred by what looks to be greed from where I'm sitting.  I'm a disgruntled consumer and I'm not enjoying their customer relations methods at present.

Yeeeah look I'm not gonna take it up the ass and like it! Alot of people have their own opinions about what happened but I have mine of course!

Bioware should have known better than to give us false hope and then spit in our faces...they did this to their LOYAL FANS ...and after what they did we get people trolling us telling us how we should feel about what happened to Thane and to get over it,not only that but we have a BW moderator (EVILCHRIS ) being a sarcastic jerk to us! And Bioware won't even tell us or hint to us if we are even gonna have a chance to save Thane....so no I'm not gonna be all nice and positive about this!

Apologies if the first part comes across as mean,I'm not trying to be hateful to you I'm just saying....

Btw my cat Puddin has something to say...

In the new EC Synthesis end there is a reunion between Kei Jo and Kasumi. AFAIK Keiji is not alive, only the last message is recorded to the grey box in hologram form. What does the scene mean. Did Synthesis end bring Kei Ji back?

Great question. I honestly didn't know the answer to this one, so I asked Patrick Weekes, the man who wrote Kasumi in Mass Effect 3 and this is what he said:

"In Synthesis, the improved communication/relationship between synthetics and organics is enough for Keiji's greybox memories to be reconstructed. This would let Kasumi reunite with her lover (at least mentally and emotionally). Whether it really is Keiji, based on his memories, or just a very good AI reconstruction of him, is up to the player to determine -- that type of question is one of the core questions of Synthesis."

While I can tell why BioWare's people act like that, I do not say their behaviour towards us is justified. But it just works that way- don't you like more the ones, who appreciate your work than those, who keep complaining? We've been neglected and we have all rights to complain. But complaining about everything ME3 related will bring them to one conclusion- "they will never be satisfied, let's not waste time and money on them."

You're right, and I have clearly picked my fight :D.  Still, I'm not going to go bigging up the rest of the game because that will make no difference at all to what they choose to do.  They already said 'let's not waste time and money on them' when creating the game in the first place.  I'm here to try and change their mind, I've sent art, letters, taken part in three fanbooks, and created a Thane Plushie and sent him around the world (to date Scotland -Glasgow, Ayr, Edinburgh, Wales - Cardiff, Faeroe Islands, Germany - Cologne, Munich, Sweden).
I consider my input to be fairly positive, do I get grumpy? yes, sometimes I do, but I am only human. :)

Not related to Thane exclusively, but still worth mentioning.

This thread: Patrick Weekes on ME2 squadmate DLC. Not Conclusive.
Or rather that tweet from Patrick Weekes:

https://twitter.com/...152195224113152

If there will be DLC's about ME2 squadmates, then there's also a chance for more Thane. This is an opportunity to improve our chances.

Ah here you go :wizard::

https://twitter.com/...418340971806720

And now for something completely different...
I just watched the recorded Mass Effect panel at the SDCC on Youtube, and I...I don't know what to say...

Especially in regards to this:

Look, I can understand that you want to adress as varied questions as you can on a convention panel.
But really? There was no way for say a summary, on what the fans asked after the panel in regards to Thane?
Like a compilation of the most asked questions? No?

I honestly don't know what to say about this... I'm just...Image IPB

Irregardless of what reasons where behind the decision on why the Thane questions were seemingly barred from the panel, I will say this:

I will not be silent on how I feel about Thane in ME3. I will be civil. But I will not be silent.
I will be honest about how I feel. But I will be civil. I will explain why I am discontent. But I will be civil.
I will express what I would like to see in regards to Thane. But I will be civil.
But I will not back down.

In short: "Keep Calm and #SaveThane."

(I should make a poster that says that in addition to the "Keep Calm and Lick a Drell methinks")
