It's almost a blessing in disguise that they "forgot" about him, since that now leaves a window of opportunity to give him more than one option (if they ever chose to). Of course, best would have been had that option been provided from the VERY BEGINNING.
If Unreal Engine were more moddable, I'd say it straight up WAS a blessing in disguise, because someone could come along and fix it. Unfortunately, Unreal Engine is apparently almost impossible to mod. Give it five-ten years, maybe we'll figure out something for Thane and Jacob by then if BioWare doesn't deign to fix it
And while we're at it, we can nuke the stupid starbrat.
@Gears: I feel ya. Samara was (after Legion) my favorite new character in ME2. She was like a mentor to my FemShep.
I admit I have no working knowledge of these gaming engines. It would be great if modders could eventually play around with it; totally agree with that!

The idea I put together works very much in principle with how other BW games and DLC have worked (namely ME2 and DA2). The bulk of the content that would utilize the new
option, would be contained in the DLC. Only two parts would be integrated (if you could even call it that.)
First part would be set up similarly to
Arrival. For example, in Arrival you take a message up in the Captains Loft from Admiral Hacket. Even after accepting the mission from him, you do NOT have to do it right away. This part would equate to my adding of a dialogue with Thane at Huerta, where you have an opportunity to
bolster his health using the
Eupolmus Device . Since the dialogue gives the player an out (and the treatment does NOT save Thane from anything....just makes his participation more believable), it matters not if you decide to play the DLC even after the coup, when Thane would already be dead. Then, just like playing the Leviathan DLC adds a new line of dialogue with the Catalyst, if you follow the paths correctly to save Thane, the base game will simply be set for a Coup
WITHOUT an available Thane (just like if he was already dead from ME2, or you failed to speak to him before the Coup occurs), then either Kirahee steps in (if still alive) or the Councilor dies. Last would be an email sent to Shepard which I outlined in either this thread or the Thane thread (hehe...should probably go find that and save it

). This email would simply wrap up his role in me3.
Here is a link to the initial
DLC idea I put together, if you are interested.
**EDIT for messiness and content**
I found the exchange I had with Emeraldfern a few weeks back. Here is the idea for the email from Thane, that I thought would work in this context.

Actually, if the techno-gooble you said, doesn't work, there is another very nice solution (which again I hint at in my DLC idea). A new letter from Thane. Once he stays on Kajhee for the treatment, the Illuminated Primacy puts him (and Kolyat) in a version of Witness Protection, due to his outstanding service to the Hanar. But of course, he has one request; a chance to send a covert message to Shepard. This email could contain very general information about his "death" to Shepard, indicating that he has been pronounced dead so that his enemies would not go looking for him, but that he is also being moved and identity changed to further protect himself and Kolyat. For a friend Shepard, this would simply end with best regards and hopes for the future. For a romanced Shepard, it can be a further declaration of love, and a promise to search her out, once the reaper threat has passed.
The end result of such an email would be that having his name on the memorial wall would still fit. No need to try and remove the image.
