Protesting the Poor Treatment of Thane Krios' Romance

No, game, I'm pretty f---ing sure. Now let me just be friends with her. It's possible to NOT want to have sex with the asari, you know <_< I personally think their head tentacles and lack of ears are creepy as all hell.

I agree Sable...I am just now playing a male shepard on ME 1 just recruited Liara...I was thinking about having him romance Liara, but I think I'm gonna change my mind now cause of how it shows that they want you to pick Liara...and that really bugs me! I do like Liara but how they put her on the pedestal is just rediculous and annoying!
*shrug* If you like Liara for her own sake, go ahead and romance her. If anything, I feel bad for Liara--she's strong enough of a character to carry her own weight without the waifu treatment, and the writers' obvious favoritism just makes players dislike her.
My ManShep is finally getting a full run of the series, and I'm dreading ME3. He's romancing Miranda. I talked to the Miri fans, and apparently I'm gonna have to spend half the freaking game dodging Ash and Liara. Pbbt.

If you don't talk to Liara you can avoid her. The same goes with Ashley. I just hope you're happy with the side of Miranda that came out!

I know, but I still like the characters and want to see their dialogue even it it means occasionally reloading if I trigger something on accident.
Actually, let me clarify: I still like Liara. The only thing I like about Ash in ME3 is how I can periodically yell my lungs out at her. It's very cathartic. Call ME a traitor to the Alliance...*wanders off muttering angrily*

The poor gal is devastated. She cries!
She's warmed up a lot in ME3.

I'd suggest Googling the break up scene with Miranda if you plan on looking at it. It's so horrible.

I tried YouTubing it and had to stop watching the clip. I'm such a softie. Miranda is one of my favorite characters in any video game ever, and I would sooner jettison most of the ME1 and ME2 crew into the nearest black hole than do that to her.
OK, hopping over to the Miri thread before we derail this one further.

But...Argh no Emerald! Don't go nitpicky about art techniques! It's cute! There, no nitpicking!
@Sable & Taboo
My brother tried to break-up with Miranda once. Once he'd seen the scene he just said:
That scene..I just...I..no. RELOAD! Sorry Ash, another Shep, another playthrough!
That said, breaking up with Thane in ME3 (and ME2) is gut-wrenching too. (I did it for science. I'll never do it again) It's more subtle, but jeebuz, he really tries to bottle up his feelings if only to not hurt Shepard.

I saw a ME 3 playthrough on Yt where the guy romanced Ashley in ME 1 then romanced Miranda in ME 2 ...then dumped Miranda to go back to Ashley...I saw Miranda cry and just felt so sorry for her and was yelling at the screen at the player!

Shepard never gives a real reason for doing this if you break up with someone from ME2.
I have also seen the break up seen with Miranda on Youtube. They did do a good job with the facial animation because she looks pretty heart broken. I felt so bad for her.

Thane would so go all Liam Neeson on anyone who messed with his kids.
Re: breaking up with LIs in ME2--Garrus is pretty chill about it if you do it early and say you just wanna be friends. Individual headcanon aside, I don't think it's a huge deal for him until the O4 relay scene.

Everyone else bout Miranda break up scene, well I hate Miranda, don't get me wrong she's a great character because I hate her. She just comes off as a stuck up, self centered, holier than thou, sliver spoon, b!tch. Her personality rubbed me wrong, and when I saw the youtube version of the break up scene I'm not gonna lie I was laughing.
It was like the stuck up girl had a drunker fling and decided she wanted some more and got turned down hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahaha. I was not sad, I was laughing.
I will not apologize for that. Another thing that really p!ssed me off, and it was on the same level of p!ssed off as the Liara Shep grabbing touchy feelly hands couple in love, even though My Shep broke up with her twice in ME2 once in the normal campaign and then again in LotSB. Yet when she rolled out of the vents in ME3 my Shep ran over to her like a deranged horny teenager.
Anyway that p!sssed off and what p!ssed me off just as much was in my first ME3 playthrough Miranda died, and My Shep started calling her a friend and spewed forth nice things to her. I was p!ssed NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO He was a total dick to her, and she wasn't his friend and he hated her and he never said anything nice to Thane who was his friend but Miranda agfjafhkfjasfhaksj;gfdskajhfakj

Yeah, the game does tend to assume Shep is buddies with everyone. Except in ME1, you can be a real terror to people in that game. It works ok for my FemShep, who's at least courteous to everyone, and great with my brotastic ManShep, but I can definitely see the problem when it comes to roleplaying.
And don't worry about Miranda--I tend to really like polarizing characters (Miranda, Morrigan, Anders, ME2 TIM, etc.) and I know not everyone does. I happen to intensely dislike Carth and Bastila, and I know I'm a minority opinion there.

Wait It's been years since I played either of the KOTOR games but I remember that I hated Carth and Kiadan is dull and it sure didn't help that they were voiced by the same dude. I was like "Oh f*ck me Carth really? This dude sucks already."
Now on the other hand I loved TIM and hated him. Having played ME1 and read the books I knew the dude and Cerberus were rotten to the core. But I loved TIM, he was like the twisted person who's got his own game plan and he won't tell anyone it, sure he says it's protecting humanity at any cost, but that's always been a load of BS to me. I loved him he was this shadowy dude who just trying to figure him out wasn't going to be easy he always has an angle and he'll play all sides off each other to meet his own ends.
I love villians like that.
Course I hated Jack from how she looked, but quickly she became one of my favorite characters. This was my first play through of ME2 and I really liked Jack. It broke my heart siding with Miranda because I was resorting to tapping that and running, because I failed at getting Samara (or so I thought that's what the near kiss scene meant I did something wrong preventing me from romancing her. She even gets mentioned in the Citadel adds.) needless to say Jack ended up dead in my first ME2 game.
I also always really liked Ashley, I'm sooooo thankful I never made her my Shep's cannon ME1 LI. It would have killed me to dump her because Samara stole my heart.

Anyway because I don't know where else to put this and all the cool people hang out in here, I thought I'd share it here, something I wrote up, for a writing prompt for an EDI/Joker short fic and while it turned into this massive thing that took me weeks to complete because I wanted to hit the feels. I just wanted to toot my own dang horn in here and am shamelessly self promoting my own work. "LOOK I WROTE THIS!" http://gearseffect.t...ther-tumblr-for
@Sable agreed I hate twitter's limit it's a problem for me who says lots but somehow it amounts to jack diddle dog doo.

I really like Kaidan as a bro, though I've never romanced him, and a lot of the points brought up in the blog apply to friendship Kaidan too. He's sweet, stable, level-headed, and a rare spot of sanity in a galaxy gone bats***.
I thought Kaidan was like this in ME1, and I did like him.
I didn't really care for him in ME3 though. The constant badgering he gave Shepard about Cerberus just got annoying, and outside of a romance it didn't seem like he had much to say on the ship.
