I just started to play ME 1-3 a couple of weeks ago and did not romance Thane 'til date - but he always grows so deep in my heart that I have to cry over his death and at the last goodbye in the apartment (with those video-messages that never reached Shep
) every time (play my third Shep currently) - like yesterday evening again
.
Hm, I was thinking about dating Thane with my next FemShep, but what I read in here makes me unsure, sounds like in ME 3 it's the same process as if you've never dated him? Wow. Well, seems that I finally have to take a closer look at mods/modding - didn't feel like doing it so far as it sounds so complicated and I have to figure out if especially the ThaneMod and MEHEM are compatible with the german version of the game - I hope so
Oh, and I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who returns often to the Life Support where Thane used to talk to Shep
I always would like to place something of him there, like a photograph ... (speaking of it - in the Citadel-DLC we say goodbye to him in our apartment, and there is a photo on the piano - why the hell couldn't Bioware leave it there? I was sad to see it's gone after this sequence ...).
Sorry if all this has been said over and over again - for me it's a fresh experience
I should probably keep it vague but I am just finishing my first repeat of the whole ME trilogy, and found it very easy to mod ME3 for Thanemancers per the many posted links and articles. Just follow the instructions, back up everything they tell you to, keep an eye on your RAM and go for it.
I'm just finishing up the ME3 repeat and was seriously impressed. It's such a smoother, lovelier and more well-thought-out alternative for the Thanemance, and much sweeter, even if we see him less (he's off getting treatment instead of getting, er, in danger on the Citadel). The LI gets letters throughout the game (very well-written and in Thane's voice--I'm a writer, so I was skeptical, but they're excellent) and in a wonderful touch, you can even view 'encrypted' letters from Shep to Thane on the Shadowbroker terminal in which you can only catch an intriguing word or two, but they remind you that she is in constant contact with him. It's a very clever approach, and adds a touch of poignance to Femshep, that she's sitting there composing these letters late after nearly dying 12 times that day, etc.
I still love ME and ME3, but I was so pleased to have an alternative approach to the story rather than the very forced one I was given as far as Thane (who I fell like a brick for in ME2) -- I didn't mind the downer official ending in my first full runthrough (and found some of it quite beautiful and moving), but the writers overall obviously <and admittedly> forgot about Thane as a LI at all, so without outside help, there is no outside acknowledgment of Thane and no reaction to him or Shep or her state of mind (or worse, even from Shep toward Thane outside of the one meeting at the hospital until Citadel DLC). The option of a modded version simply allows you to pursue a happier option and one in which the relationship moves forward in a really lovely way. (And you get the darned Paramour achievement you deserve as well.)
I hope the input helps. Cheers!
