This is the Rannoch: Reaper base mission. My task is "target the Reaper" and I keep getting killed. How the hell am I supposed to survive this, and how many hits does the damned thing take? I'm sweat-drenched, I've been killed about 30 times, I try rolling to the side while keeping the targeting laser pointed. I just can't do it reliably? Is there some trick to this?
How the HELL am I supposed to survive that Reaper? F************!!!!!

Just move away from the laser as its being targeted/fired at you, don't keep aiming at it. Rinse and repeat until its destroyed.

Just run from one side of platform to another, stop and aim your weapon couple seconds before beam ends (so it ends just before reaching you) and repeat.

You don't have to keep the laser pointed until it's all the way charged. You can charge it a bit, dodge, and continue charging.

No particular trick. Near as I can tell, all I had to do was roll out of the way of the beam and continue targeting. The lock doesn't loose progress as long as you have the trigger pulled, but it will only progress if you're standing still.

Aim the laser. roll out the way soon as the reaper beam hits the ground in front of you. Maybe roll twice for good measure. aim again, the beam doesn't reset so ur aiming progress continues.
On the last slow-mo aim just aim and dont roll.

If you stand still while aiming the laser it charges up quicker. When the Reaper beam gets close to you hit your dodge a couple times and then resume targeting. Rinse and repeat that 4 times and then you get the slow motion scene. Another thing that helped was sprinting away from the first beam it fires after it moves up and then dodging and aiming for the rest.

Not really, it's just a matter of timing. You should dodge the moment the beam fires, and then as soon as you stop rolling, start painting the Reaper. You should have just enough time to get the shot off before you shep gets vaped by the following shot.

It took me a bit too. My advice: Get used to rolling sideways. It targets faster if you stay still. Oh, and time slows down on the last one, so no rolling there.

The targeting that you do is cumulative, so just do it in little bursts and give yourself lots of room to strafe.

Strafe.
The laser follows you in a limited capacity, so let it wind up near your platform before dodging.

That one was tough. Just keep your aim steady. You can still move about, just watch that you keep hitting the same point on the Reaper.

I know the feeling. I believe it takes three hits to destroy the Reaper.
Run whenever the laser gets close to you (personally I avoid the laser better than when I roll). Do not keep pointing if the Reaper laser gets too close, you can interrupt your pointing without any problem.
Basically, avoid the laser at all costs.

do a barrel roll!

I just rolled from side to side, you have a little time when its first fired to keep aiming at it. You gotta stay close to the front of the cliff though, I kept getting stuck on ****ing rocks I couldn't see because of the camera angle.

THE LAZER DOESNT RESET.
target it a little, get out of the way. when its done shooting at you, get the target a little closer, THEN MOVE OUT OF THE WAY.
you dont need to one shot it every time...... its not a hammer of dawn.

I found that moving to say the right a few steps while the beam first charges up then rolling to the left once and holding down that target, works well.

i lol'd at "do a barrel roll"
but yeah, you don't have to keep the fire button pressed, you can interrupt it with no problems while you dodge.

I died about 3 times here, too, before figuring out it didn't reset

Stay far right or left then as it fires at you roll in the opposite direction. And you can keep firing as you roll. On the last one though you just stare it down and fire.

The reaper's laser acquires the direction you're moving in when it first fires and keeps going that way....so when its starting to fire, strafe left for 1-2 steps, then roll right. It'll keep going left and miss you completely. This also lets ya get a lot of clean targeting time.

Phew. Finally did it. Rolling didn't help - too unreliable. I just ran from side to side and made a fast shot whenever possible. Still took me several tries, but the tip that the laser targets faster when standing still helped. Thank you!

This is good advice.
I also found staying closer to the front of the ledge helped. As soon as it breaks over the edge, and you've dodged it, the laser has moved above head level so it give you another extra second or two, as well.
