As for my prefered romance option: the character Achilles from Troy, now that's a hot manly man. *drools*
I actually never cared for Brad Pitt until I saw that movie.
There is some allure to that type of poweful man (in fiction) who will just take you because he wants you and because he can. David Gaider might be considering writing a Clive Owen type romance in the future, which would probably be something like that.
Except in real life, when a powerful man takes you just beause he can......I imagine its not so romantic.
IMO: The Romances not that Romantic

Do I wish a little more was added too it? sure I do, but the chances of bioware doing it are slim to none. Think you'll have to befriend the MOD community to get some of the cut scenes and so on that some are looking for.
hmmmmm Leliana and I for a late night swim......... yummy!!!!!

So I will give him 8/10.
My biggest problem is, Zevran seems a bit neglected as a romance options (So less character development for my taste). He makes me feel he's a bit rushed character whose story full of corny things even a 5 year old can put together. Nevermind his sexual predator behavior. If someone like him try to aproach me as the same way he does in game, I will punch his face without a second tought or regrets.
Both female companions are fun to have around. Morrigan is not so bright as a romance option but his personality, witts and banters really good. Same goes with Leliana. Most of her lines are really funny. (like the one about forbidden fruit or lying him about being a grey warden). So they are nicely written characters. Still working on Leliana romance with my human noble lady (finally I found strength to play as a female character) so don't have much insight about her romance.
Have fun,
Sid

Alistair works particularly well if you're a Dwarven Noble, I find. I've mentioned it in another thread, but the patterning between the characters makes their relationship make a lot of sense.
Plus as a Dwarven noble you get Gorim, who is gosh darn wonderful. Now he does remind me of Kaiden, actually.
In my last male Cousland playthrough, I romanced all the available characters. I think the Leliana romance is well written, but she did strike me more as a lesbian than bisexual, even when romancing her as a male. I'm going to try with my female mage. The sex scene with Leliana is by far my favourite though, it's just so tender.
I haven't fully romanced Zevran yet, as it's pretty impossible if you upset him in any way (by cheating on him).
Morrigan... to me felt a little odd. I find her a fascinating and complex character to begin with, and the relationship with her more than any other can flip and change. Cousland slept with her first, then ended things to bed Leliana, then was told by Morrigan they were friends and she'd never felt that before, then they had a big fight and ended up together again! I did end up getting the ring though, which I thought was dealt with very well. I guess the only thing I found odd was how easy it was to bed her. I understand that sex is less sacred to Morrigan than love, but I still think it should have been a little harder, as the woman is pretty proud.
Oh, and with Leliana, if you've hardened her surely it should be a little easier! Alistair having to me at such a high relationship mark makes sense, it's his first time, but Leliana used to do this all the time, and seems to really enjoy it. Why is it so difficult?

The Zevran romance starts off shallow but grows deep. It's not until close to the end that it finishes, unlike the others that finish before the landsmeet is called. So unless you stick with it, it is going to come across as shallow. I agree that his initial approach is, at best, obnoxious. I find his story heartbreaking, not corny, though; and I also felt the sexual way he approaches everything actually is not what it seems.

Yeah he gets a higher spot on later stages of relationship I should give him that. Child of a **** sold to the evil guild; maybe it is me but I heard that things on many variations before. Zevran is have to fun around (especially on my one walkthrough on last fight there were only my PC, Zevran as his romance interest, Loghain as sacrifice and my faithfull hound. Also I have to admit I have a bad experience with Zevran, on my one walkthrough while we were going good (past the +70 approval iirc) he tried to woo Leliana on party banter. A big NO in my book no matter how you hide your feelings.
Ahhh, he tries to woo everyone -- including Oghren. I think it's funny. Later on, if that dialog comes up after a certain camp dialog, she may accept, but it still doesn't happen. In fact, the three way (or four way) will only happen if you insist upon it.
On the male play through, can you also end up practically married? I don't see why not, and in fact I hope so. I thought that was the sweetest ending.

On my play through we ended up with Wardens and Zevran stayed with me. Can't remember any "at least for a time they stayed together" thing. I didn't get his earring tho'. I told him to offer that thing if it means something, he frustrated and leave. Game ended before any other chance to talk with him. I am leveling up a Dwarf noble to romance Zevran again now. Will see how it goes this time.
Interesting. You didn't finish the romance then. You did the right thing turning it down, but you need to talk to him at camp after turning it down. You actually missed the very best dialogs with him -- most people who don't like the romance have not had those last few dialogs.
Edit: And if you rebuild the gray wardens with him, it seems to be forever -- no "for a time." Though I bet that changes in Awakenings.
Second edit: It's the last two dialogs that you realize how deep his feelings run. The one immediately after turning down (or accepting) the earring (or just after Taliesen if he stays in your party if he's at "friendly" and not romanced) you can learn just how loyal is truly is. Then the final one, if romancing him, and especially if you turned down the earring, wowza.

Alistair seems good, even if I didn't play a female yet, I think, when I get around playing a female character, I will have her romance him.
Zevran, I wouldn't touch with a stick. Not only he's completely unattractive, but he's also absolutely revolting attitude-wise. At least for me.

I know others have said this, but Zev's romance is the best in game. His loyalty is unswerving, his commitment deep - He may not have all the hearts and flowers, but you know without a doubt, that he is yours. His history makes him cautious, but when he finds out you feel the same way, and as long as you sidestep the big "L" word (you'll find out why if you make the effort to romance him) it's a nice epilogue
Yes, he's a shameless flirt - but still waters run deep, and Zev's character has more depth in his pinky finger than Alastair has in his entire body. The difference also might be that Zev is more worldly, and has experienced more than Alastair who lived a cloistered life. Once I got past that cheesy Antonio Banderas accent, I was hopelessly hooked

I also think you get out what you put in. The most satisfying playthroughs I had were my last character, a Dalish elf who romanced Alistair, and my current, a city elf who is with Zevran. Probably because I wasn't focused on game mechanics as much, rather about working myself into the story and really "feeling" my characters, I have found the love story around both characters very compelling.

I liked the romances in the game, especially Zev's (as I've said elsewhere). He's so much more than a wild oat (if you want it to be), and in my opinion the the romance is more mature than Alistair's. Zev's damaged goods, but if you get to the root of some of his issues, he'll be one of the most faithful romances in the game.
Not "one of the" but "THE most" faithful of the romances. If he falls, he falls hard. And yes, far more mature than Alistair's romance. Alistair is a sweet boy, no doubt about that, but I'm not sure that beyond the pretty words is that good a romance partner or that faithful a lover once it gets down to it. Zevran shows to be, if you get to know him, far more compassionate, kind, and way stronger, however, which automatically makes him a better romance partner.

No, no... you should give it a try, if you can find a character which can "get" him, and you're willing to experience delayed gratification in terms of the relationship's development during the game. The cliche and sleazy about Zevran is his facade and the romance with him is in many ways more beautiful and mature than with Alistair. I've been converted from Alistair fangirl to Zevran fangirl, though actually I like both. I am thirtysomething, too, if that means anything.Blessed Silence wrote...

But like ejoslin and some of the others have said, Zev's romance is amazingly deep. I romanced him as both a male and female PC, and while they weren't too different, I preferred certain nuances of the M/M side better. I can't see how you can finish his romance and still say he's a stereotypical sleaze, but whatever.

I suspect that if someone calls him a stereotypical sleaze, they haven't finished the romance. But who knows -- people do interpret things differently, but i have noticed that many people think the romance with Zevran ends before it actually does and don't get the last dialog. Seeing what it takes to get that last dialog, however, I wonder if the ones who have finished it without reading spoilers are the strange ones (grin, I saw no spoilers so I'm talking about myself too). I suspected the M/M romance may be a bit more . . . intense than the M/F one.

It definitely had a different feel to it. My only critisism would be how the early romance conversations felt like walking on eggshells; probably the writers trying to make it impossible for players to 'accidentally' slip into a M/M romance and be all offended. It got better later on, but I wish it didn't have to be like that. Ah well.

Wow, now that's protection!
In all seriousness, though, I'm definitely one of those who agrees that Zevran's romance is the deepest, even though Alistair's and Morrigan's (as plot-centric NPCs) have more content to them.
I found the M/M romance with Zevran deeper than the M/F one, but at the time I put that down to the fact that the first time I went all the way through his romance was with a male PC. I figured that my female PC's romance with Zevran was kind of underwhelming just because I'd already been there, done that with a previous PC. Now I'm not so sure, but I still can't quite put my finger on why, especially since Zevran himself will say that, given the choice, he prefers women.

It is impossible to slip into a romance with Zevran, male or female, unlike with either Leliana or Alistair. It's why I think it's so funny when people complain about that -- he always checks before anything. As soon as he moves out of neutral, he asks about having a future with the PC, and whether that future is as friends or possibly more (unlike say another romanceable male, not mentioning names here, who doesn't even think of the future until after the tent scene). Even if you make it to him offering a massage, he asks ahead of time if it can go further.
Anyway, I'm not sure it's a homophobia thing; I think it's more Zevran being unsure. Doesn't he say even in the male romance that he thinks he prefers women? I would imagine two guys in that situation (being neither a guy nor gay I could be WAY off here) who are unsure of their own sexuality, uncertain whether the attraction felt is returned, and definitely nervous about the other's feelings would be walking on eggshells. I'm not sure I could appreciate the male/male romance, but I may try it just to see the differences. I'm still all *squee* over the Zevran romance with my various PCs. There are a lot of subtle nuances there that are not there in the Alistair romance. Race, for instance, actually makes for a bit of difference in approval (and tent scenes) with the Zevran romance whereas with Alistair, aside from a couple of minor dialog options, it makes no difference at all. Well, until it comes time to see if he'll marry the PC or not, of course. Then race makes a huge difference. That may fall under Alistair not considering the future until after he finally wins and beds the PC, though.
Edit: cut excessive quoting and a nod to one of my questions being answered just before I posted this!

That said, I did enjoy most of the romances in the game. The only one that left me feeling icky was Leliana. Having her watch you while you sleep made me think she was going to kill me in my sleep and try to wear my skin one day. She's just kind of...nuts.
