Context changes a lot, it seems.  I never thought that fershlugginer overheat sound would be so sweet.

I hate thermal clips. Loathe them with an unseemly passion. They just seem stunningly stupid to me from an in-universe standpoint (sure, let's go from three days' ammo to three minutes, that's a sound strategic decision) and I hate having to run around looking for the fracking things. mind you, ME3 has made this alot easier with lots of logically-placed ammo dumps, but it's still a pain.

Enter From Ashes, and the Particle Rifle. It uses the overhead mechanic from 1, and it's an energy weapon (sort of). I might have paid ten bucks just for this rifle. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of this blaster-loving ME1 fan's heart.

(As an aside -- and this isn't a complaint, just an observation leaning towards a request -- but since you already included the mechanic in-universe, I'd pay a few bucks to have it available as a mod for other weapons. Just sayin'. :D)

I love it too. I wouldn't have made it through the last mission without it.

I have finished the game and never ran out of ammo even once. If anything, I was running into the "full ammo" pop-up all the time. Seriously, ammo drops faster than I can drop enemies (lil' exageration but you get my point).

I think the particle rifle may honestly be the best rifle in the game.
I think various people will disagree for different reasons, but here's why I think so:

Assualt Rifles are great weapons. However, there are 2 main drawbacks to them that limit their usefulness: One is the recoil that causes them to steadily climb as you fire them, and the other is the spread of the shots fired due to their generally low accuracy. This means that in order to really effectively use rifles at even mid range, you will usually need to use the stability enhancer mod, the accuracy scope, or possibly even both. This means you sacrifice damage, armor/piercing, and or shot capacity somewhere along the line.

Not so with the Particle Rifle. Since it has NO RECOIL and has NO SPREAD whatsoever. The gun fires a beam to a single point with 100% accuracy that charges to be stronger the longer you hold the fire button down. On top of that, it uses the old cooldown system from ME1. This means you are essentially freed from using the stability and accuracy mods, especially when you have the rifle equipped on your squadmates. This leaves you open to add more damage/piercing/capacity.

Speaking of capacity. The capacity upgrade allows you to hold down the fire button significantly longer before the gun overheats, allowing you to basically swing a powered up laser back and forth across the field and just melt everything it touches. It is honestly extremely ridiculous. If you also fit it with the armor piercing mod, it becomes an insanely effective focus fire weapon against almost all armored enemies in the game.

In short: amazing.

HELLO MASS EFFECT 3 GAMERS
I FOUND A SOLUTION TO FLUSHING OUT ENEMIES FROM COVER
1.THROW A GRENADE AT THEM
2.USE CONCUSSIVE SHOT: AIM HT GUN SLIGHTY UP FROM THE TARGET MAKE SURE THAT YOU AR LOCK ON AND THEN FIRE

Yep. Best weapon in ME3 imho. I just love cracking up the particle rifle so it increases the beam output and watch the Shield/Barrier and Health of the enemies decrease in an blinks eye. Lovely

Hehe, poor Thermal Clips they're like Rodney Dangerfield it seems. : )

I'll try this weapon out on my Sentinel, since as an Adept I don't need to fire my gun with how I'm spec'd.

There's nothing wrong with thermal clips from an in-universe perspective. There's nothing that says that they can't be put back in after they've cooled down.

You seem to like mentioning this in every post you make.

From an in-universe perspective, thermal clips actually make far more sense than the magical heat sinks in ME1 that somehow manage to radiate heat in a vacuum at the same rate they do at standard temperature and pressure.

Oh yeah, when I do a adept and sentinal playthrough it'll probably be the only weapon I use.

A very fun gun indeed. Also extremely satisfying with a piercing mod equipped on Javik. Watching the beam go right through walls and hit guys (since your companions are pretty stupid about firing at things currently behind cover) is pretty sweet.

Don't get me wrong, I think it looks a lot cooler ejecting a heatsink, but ME2 botched it by not having enemies drop more. In ME3 the are at least more abundant with more options to add additional capacity via armor or weapon mods.

I'll have to try it out but my game style relies on power usage a lot so the weight thing is a factor. BTW after starting a second run I found the defense matrix added power to be top notch for a soldier. turn it on, you have more shields.... purge it when shields die... they come back!!! win-win situation if you know how to use it effectively during battle. :)

I'm thinking once it's fully upgraded then it'll be manageable, hopefully anyway.

Putting a piercing mod and magazine upgrade on it makes it annihilate everything, it's great for power classes once it weighs little.
