The reason so many people (myself included) are upset/angry/dissapointed by the endings isn't the fact that they were all nonsense from a narrative standpoint, it's not the Deus Ex magic ending button, it's the fact that nothing we did in the previous 2 games had any significant effect on the choices available to us.  Even the final decision from ME2 did not alter the outcome (only the requirements to obtain a certain outcome).  Now it feels like we played the first 2 games for no reason.

Exactly. That is mainly why I am so pissed. I feel like I wasted 120 hours of my life for nothing.

Bingo. At a minimum, we were allowed to believe that our big decisions would be factored into the end, only to find out the last choice is in a bubble. The only thing that affects said bubble is a number that made it easy for them to determine which endings to make available, and a slight tweak on that number based on something that was played up to have huge ramifications. While I'm a big believer that the journey matters more than the destination, I am also a believer that the journey should that destination.

Ya I could have not even gotten off the ship on Eden Prime in Mass Effect and had some marine sex with Jenkins while Saren blew up the colony.....wouldn't have mattered.

I'm pissed because they're all ****ing depressing. I can handle a sad ending and all but being so invested in this series (but more importantly, the characters), it just makes it way to hard to replay. Just puts a real downer on the whole series, you know?

When it comes right down to it we all may sound like nerds crying over spilt milk but for god sake is it really so much to be able to enjoy a story? We all know this is just a game and that our lives aren't any better or worse for it but right now it just feels like we wasted our time, money, and emotional energy. I imagine the feeling in the pit of my stomach is the same for a writer that loses the only copy of a manuscript or the person whose relative beats cancer then gets hit by a car. It just feels terrible.

I wouldn't call it wasted when you enjoyed it.
I wasted only 5 of them, Thessia and later.
