So you need 4000 points.
Save the Geth? Add X.
Save both the Quarians and the Geth? Add X + Y.
Save the Krogan? Add Z.
...and so on.
In the end though, all of your decisions in this game are diminished into a quantitative numerical value that usually evens itself out no matter what side you pick. And during the final mission, this numerical value has absolutely no impact on what's happening above in space or on the ground; the actual "value" of the assets you bring having no real impact on the battle against the Reapers. All this number does is signify which of three endgame choices you have access to. Furthermore, apparently having a higher number changes the function of the Crucible to not destroy everything on Earth, whereas having a lower number makes the weapon wipe out Earth.
So if I save the Geth as well instead of just saving the Quarians, it might put me above the arbitrary number cutoff that prevents the Crucible from wiping out everything on Earth, even though neither of those decisions could sensically make any impact on what the Crucible's function is!
Maybe if my decisions throughout the series and especially in ME3 weren't watered down to an arbitrary number that had virtually no impact on the ending except in a way that makes no logical sense, then ME3 would have succeeded.
The entire idea of "War Assets" is flawed as it reduces all of your decisions to a single variable (causing all of them to lose their meaning) which determines everything in the game; there is no variety.
Well done, BioWare.
More than the endings was flawed... Your decisions are numbers.

ME2 was like that, except it was all behind the scenes.
im guessing thats why they added the numbers, because people couldnt see them in ME2.
In ME2 some of your squad surival was based on their defence number value or something. its was stupid then and its stupid now

Yep not only numbers, numbers that don't matter anyway.

No it was just dependant on you not being stupid and if you had loyalty, numbers had nothing to do with anyone surviving.

Right, but those numbers were tied to your squadmates and determined the fate of your squadmates.
This number determines the function of the Crucible, something that makes no logical sense nor gives any value to any of the decisions you made. The number isn't important with regards to anything outside of the final five minutes; no matter how many assets you bring to the final battle you still end up on the Citadel. Does that make any sense?

I saved the Geth and Quarians.
I was expecting to see Geth ships and soldiers fighting the Reapers in space and on Earth.
What did I get? "The Geth fleet is ready."
Did Shepard mention that the Quarians and Geth, as well as EDI, are able to coexhist now when the God-Child thing said synthetics will always destroy organics? No.
I guess it was too difficult to add in extra cutscenes and dialog based on our decisions so they made the most basic ones that everyone would have instead. But hey, we get Jessica Chobot so it's all worth it, right?
