At the beginning of the game, in the first chapter (in the mission Priority: Canada) there is a kid in some duct

I try to tell him to get out of there but he disappears

later I see him boards a shuttle but the shuttle is destroyed by reapers

was wondering if there was any way to have the kid survive?

My reaction to this, without even getting into the later bits of this game, is: why the hell would you even want to?

I wanted a renegade interrupt where Shep makes a cynical joke or goes "meh".
I'm a bad bad woman.

The kid is a lie, he's really a space wizzard.

That kid becomes a symbol for Earth and its losses. They're not going to let you save him.

The kid has the same chance of living as the franchise does after that ending.

The kid - not to be confused with the ending - is a symbol for all the people that Shepard can't save. As such, you can't save him.

The kid is really there, and he dies. The godbeing at the end just happens to look just like him, due to laziness in both the writing and graphical departments. Actually, scratch that, godbeing's existence was lazy altogether.

Having played through ME3, I wish the reapers would've gang-raped that kid.

Well that is simply unpleasant.

No, you can't save him. Someone mentioned he represents all of the people Shepard cannot save at the time. And also something emotional to tether Shepard to the losses earth is sustaining while galavanting across the galaxy and having sexy time with your LI.

Not at all unpleasant, if you've finished the game, it would be quite satisfying to see.

can someone explain to me the meaning of the kid being a "Symbol"? I mean thousands and thousands are dieing, why that kid in particular gets to be some sort of symbol?

Because they're going for cheap pathos that's so transparent I double facepalmed during the scene.

I wish you could save him, only so I could kill him myself.
