No.
The ending is REALISTIC to the series. That's all.
In RPG games (like MASS EFFECT 1-3), the ending is very important. RPG games are plot-driven, so the story is vital to the gameplay experience. If the ending is not satisfactory, then the game WILL suffer backlash from its fans. Take other RPG series... They arent realistic, yet the endings are what made them Mainstream (final fantasy, etc.)
You want realism? Go back to playing COD with all your mindless "realistic" killing for self-satisfaction and doggy treat pleasure. Leave the "sunshine bunnies" to RPG gamers like us. As far as were concerned, the story ending doesn't bring justice to the mass effect series.

I'm ok with Shepherd dying. In fact I expected it, and I think it was necessary to provide realistic emotional resonance in the final chapter of this story. But the method of disposal and surrounding storyline, starting with a required 2nd playthrough in order to make the final pure paragon or renegade dialogue choice with the Illusive Man don't jibe. Even after being frustrated at that point I would have been OK with things except for the mass relay destruction and strange landing on tropical planet stuff. Didn't make sense.
Ultimately it felt like all of the tough decisions had little impact on the actual outcome.

And what's with your homophobia? Everything is so and just REALISTIC to you, but you don't have time or brains to explain it a little maybe?
It seems to me that you even don't respect yourself and of course that you can't respect anything or anyone else.
Please, go root on the same horible place that you came from in the first place. Leave normal and constructive people alone.

Oh the irony, someone claiming to be "mature" yet throwing homophobic slurs. This looks like a typical example of a "mature" "love the ending" group. Basically proves everything I've been saying so far.

why does it feel like You either liked the ending, or you're to stupid to comprehend it?
I mean, I feel like I'm a pretty intelagent person, spelling aside, and I didnt get the ending.
So why do the people who do 'get it' feel the need to insult those of us that dont?
(Also, i would like to say that I dont think my sexuality has anything to do with my opinion, and I dont appreciate being called out on that)

I'm taking off for the night, but I'd like to see this joke of a thread stay open through the weekend, even through Monday as an example of how no one is basically moderating anything at this point. It'll be interesting to gauge just how long the mods take their breaks

I sorta of expect, or at least I hope for some DLC that takes place after the game that fixes this huge middle finger to the fans they gave us. I mean, really at this point, one has to ask what was the point of the whole journey, if it all ended like this anyway?

My problem with the ending had nothing to do with how dark or how light it was. I'm also kind of ok with the fact that my decisions during the course of the 3 games really had no impact on the ending, I can deal with that.
My bigger problem is that I've played these games for 5 years there is literally no closure. It's totally unclear to me what happens next and why/where the Normandy is. I dont think the ending itself actually needs to be changed, I think its more that it needs to be longer/bigger to go through how all of the choices we made over three games changed the galaxy post the ending.
Seriously, given the number of choices made, the ending shouldve been 10-15 minutes (which itself isn't asking a lot) to give closure to at least the big choices you made during the trilogy

The title is pretty funny, "mature", "realistic", it seems i either can't trust my dictionnary, or the OP misunderstand his opinion for universal truth ...
Mature, realistic, doesn't involve tragedy everytime, any mature people know it.
Sometime you have to work your ass out and something good happen, and it's still realistic.

BioWare changed a thriving galactic community into a system of thousands of colonies, all seperated from each other, with an incredibly overcrowded Earth and no soon hope of reuniting the galaxy in any way.
A realistic Mass Effect ending would be if you died and the Reapers were destroyed. A realistic ending would be if the Reapers succeeded and destroyed all life.
A realistic ending does not involve introducing a god-character in the last fifteen minutes of the game.

I'm glad the ending was good too. I feel like it fit. The Synergy ending was a little weird, but I was always going to blow the Reapers up anyways.
