Yep, that was an interesting change in the lore. The Reapers used to be more tough than that. Of course there are different classes of their ships, mostly we defeat the small ones, that are about 160 meters long, but I thought -before- size didn't matter with the Reapers. That's what made them more intimidating. A whole fleet of indestructible machines. I was okay with a whole fleet raining down projectiles on a wounded Reaper to finish it, that made sense. I was okay with the mother of all Tresher Maws too, however I think, that one is very well alive, just buried (as I recall, they don't really need oxigen or light to live, so Tuchanka is sc..wed), but the one that was taken down by two simple missiles? Yeah, ok, it was wounded from earlier, but I thought it takes more than that.
Are Reapers overhyped?

Yes.. they are over hyped - for a moment I thought maybe they were just that scary till I realized they have several things they use to overwhelm. First Surprise , you never see them coming. The Protheans realized this even in the dying breaths set it up so that element was taken away.
Shock and Awe- this can be gotten over, because when they do descend its pretty is a"Mother God what the Hell is that" moment but after while that wears off and you can rally.
Most importantly - Fear.. they take your friends and loved ones turn them against you. Sow, mistrust and fear among the people with indoctrination. Knowing that we could never kill a loved one or friend that is over come with resolve.
Sheer might - Most tried to fight a war of a attrition but it never worked... you never going to win a head up fight. Secondly most never took or had the time to find a weakness and they do have a weakness. While stronger they numbers are not that much. This is why I think it took them almost 300 years to finishes the Prothean's off. Remember the Quarian fleet if 50,000 strong buy its self and Turians were lose but dug in deep on Palaven... With some smart tactics you can beat them..
Like Hackett said " I'm going hold the fleets back look for a weakness in their armor and when I find it... I'm going to hit with every gun we have." or something like that and that is exactly what yo do.
The Reapers - are like bullies they never expect the bullied to stand up and fight back when they do ..on they get hug shock.
Yes.. Reapers can be beaten but it will long and hard and nasty but it can be done and a Super weapon or two does help...
