I've never played a shadow dancer before, so this is my first time using this ability. It seems to work if I disengage from an enemy and go into stealth mode; they stop attacking my character and go after someone else like she was invisible. However, it does not seem to work against undead creatures. Do the undead have special stealth-detecting abilities? Also, does it work against enemies that have true sight?
Thanks in advance!

Trueseeing sees through all stealth (including hide in plain sight). The monsters may also have blindsight to help detect you.

I think, however, that one can still use HiPS to cause opponents to lose them as a target in that round, right (if one queues and then attacks, etc)?

Or did that particularly bothersome aspect of HiPS get patched?

Thank you, WhiZard! The undead I were fighting did have true sight, so that was my problem there.

WebShaman, like I said I'm pretty new to this ability, so I can't say for certain. I think the reason I was being attacked was because the enemies had true sight, since nothing I did made them leave my character alone. I'm not sure if there was any difference pre-1.69.

This comment is in reference to vanilla v1.69, but I've always noticed that after casting Invisibility, even among non-true seers in a mob there is a distance where they continue to chase.  Then once an adequate spacing is reached they stop and can be approached within touch range.  The advantage of using invisibility (or sanctuary) over stealth is that this "spacing" is easier to reach than with stealth with the reduced speed in effect.  I'm only guessing, mind you, but It seems like it is related to OnPerception somehow.  Or maybe it is targeting by the monster AI.   Maybe both.  Maybe neither. Dunno.

Perhaps one of our vets can explain what the working dynamic is on the hidden recognition as far as the game is concerned, not to be exploited, just understood.

I think that's right as in when something vanishes for the npc there is a differentiation as to whether it's magical vanishing, or not, ie. stealth as in hips.

I believe it has something to do with the Listen skill - something along those lines. I think I recall this being discussed once on the legacy forum in regards to Sneaking, where Bioware explained how the whole thing worked, and how the two skills differed from one another when detecting hidden/invis creatures.
