At what point did the citadel stop being able to control the mass relays?
Because, I don't about the rest of you, but when I heard the reapers had gained control of the citadel I thought that was it for the galaxy and I had messed up some how.
Now this massive star fleet you have brought together has to travel to earth w/o FTL travel.

They (the writers) forgot. As I mentioned elsewhere, in the From Ashes DLC, Javik mentions the Protheans fighting the Reapers for centuries by retreating from planet after planet, and in the flashbacks a Prothean fleet bombards Eden Prime.
